Yorkie Talker | hello im new and to prove it i think ive been fooled I was given my first yorkie after the death of our 13 yr old family dog. Our sister in law gave us a cute adorable AKC regerable puppy with papers in puppy pack. He's now two and is 15 lbs. with long hanging ears. Dont get me wrong we love him and he had a hip surgery and he is doing well, but I see my sister inlaw with all of her cute smaller dogs and I want a girl this time, for me, my dog. I bought a cute puppy she is small compact, has up ears but she is APRI reg. I was told she is very rare, now I find out she is not an excepted color for AKC is all brown and has a pinkish or brown not black nose, her litter mates were black and tan, dooped again...What to do, can she be registered with AKC. she is 13 wks and weighs 2lb 6oz. is she going to be bigger too... I fear i will never get the yorkie smarts soon enough... thanks carriekay... |

Are you planning to show the dog? If not, I wouldn't sweat appearance or size. You can always count on Yorkies to have terrific personalities. Appearance is secondary, in my opinion. I have a 10-pounder who's the smartest dog I've ever owned. And I have a pup who I'm hoping gets to 4 pounds who may just challenge my 10-pounder for smarts.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | congrats on you new baby, unless you are planing on showing your dog, I feel that meeting the AKC standards is unecessary..my little Prada is 6.5 pounds and has the clasic black and tan coloring, but has a very dense cottony coat, and I LOVE her so much, I know she is not a show dog neither I show dogs, so she gives me all her love and I give her mine.. so my advise to you is LOVE your girl and enjoy all her love.. hugs, CArmen in nj |

Carriekay... I think the only way you may get the yorkie you think you want is to purchase an older pup... you have a bettter idea of their looks/weight. If the parents of your newest pup are AKC... yes... she can be registered with AKC regardless of color. There must be chocolates in one of their lines. Enjoy your furbabies and welcome to YT!

Yorkie Talker | Thanks for the encouraging words. once you bring these little ones into your family you love them papers or not, I was hoping to breed her. I love all things chocolate. years ago I raised Chocolate Havannahs, and I own a pure breed Chocolate lab, he loves his dad more even though his full name is carries Dapper Mocah pride. He sleeps with dad and walks with dad and i dont exsist. I saw her she was chocolate and so cute and me not knowing that AKC doesnt reconize her color bought her. I have only ever owned AKC dogs and to sale her puppies APRI is not AKC... I named her double dipp chocolate Truffles and no she is not show quality but she is a pretty dog. I will keep her the breeding dreams may have to be put away though. carrieKay |

Yorkie Talker | I hope you are right about the wieght, 5 even 6 lbs is fine for me but i want her to be a lap dog who does not smash my small lap lol. I need a dog to love me right now because I have a broken heart, my 14 adopted son had to be put into the state program to keep him and others safe and His birthbrother is in another program and I know its the right thing to do but as a mom I miss them, im sad and Im hurting and I just want to love and cuddle a little dog that can love me back too. I told my doc doolittle husband he cant touch my dog until we are fully bonded. lol... carrieKay |

Truffles will just have to love each other without papers, my dreams of breading her though are propally not going to be realized because she is APRI reg not AKC reg. Carriekay |

| If she has a brown nose she is a chocolate, and although not a common color, not rare either. She will probably get to be about 7 pounds. Chocolates are accepted by the AKC but not by the YTCA. But if her parents are not registered AKC than she cannot be AKC. Breeding is not out of the question. |

I think you are making the right decision to forgo breeding her. Just love, pamper, and spoil her -- but spay her and let her be a princess in your home without breeding. Some people will breed any two dogs that will mate. But a reputable breeder will stick with AKC, breed to standard, and put the health, temperment, breed and individual dogs above making money. You want todo it right, if you decide to breed. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your little one! I am betting she is cute as a button! BTW this growth chart Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow has her coming in at a guesstimated adult weight of 4.5 - 5 pounds! Nice size and yes, she can be a great lap dog for you!

Yorkie Talker | carriekay... my baby's pictures are up on the gallery Thanks so much for your input. She does not know she has any faults and she is beautiful I just Have never delt with APRI only AKC. It is hard that she cant be AKC. but she AKC in my heart and that is what counts. so thanks so much... |

| You will get lots and lots of different opinions on BREEDING CHOCOLATE YORKIES. I, personally, am all for it, as are many, many others. If you have healthy bloodline in your Chocolate Yorkie, you have a good start. If you have everything in your Chocolate Yorkie per YTCA standard for Yorkshire Terrier except color, why not breed her. If you have a super huge dog, I would suggest not breeding. Be aware, that if you breed her to a blue/gold or blue/tan Yorkie that doesn't carry the Chocolate gene, you will not necessarily get any chocolate Yorkie puppies and yes one or some will carry the chocolate gene, but not necessarily all and you will not necessarily know which. If you want Chocolate Yorkie puppies, and lots and lots and lots of people do, find a Chocolate male to breed her with. Good Luck, and can't wait to see pictures. |

| OOPS! I messed up. If you breed your chocolate to a blue/tan or blue/gold that isn't a carrier, all your pups will still be carriers, if you have one parent a full chocolate. |

| Hi and welcome to YT. Congratulations on your little one. She must be so adorable. My Hot Rod is APRI as well and Maggie May is AKC. I did not plan on breeding or showing either so it didn't matter to me really other than I thought that AKC would be a bit more reputable as far as legitimate breeding standards. What I mean by that is that at least there was more of a chance that all was on the up and up with the breeder. Can't wait to see pictures of lil miss double dipp chocolate Truffles.
