Default New Here...think I am in trouble. (LONG)

Hi all....I'm new to the site here, but not new to Yorkies. I have a 2 yr old yorkie named Grizzly. I kinda felt he needed a B I G name since I also have a 103# older dog! lol

Anyway, just 2 days ago, I bought a baby yorkie girl. The breeder is in Amanda, Ohio and her name is Mary Beedy. If anyone knows of her, please let me know.

The little girl I purchased was advertised as "rare white" yorkie. Though I questioned the breeder thoroughly, she insisted it was a fluke birth, as in having the white gene. The puppy is actually a very very very pale tan or blonde color with darker tan edges to her ears, back feet and around her nose/mouth area. She is 10 weeks old.

The breeder told me that the little "bumps" on either side of her inside hips/groin area were actually her ovaries and that her vet told her it wasn't a problem, that she would grow into them and they'd disappear!

That was Thursday. Friday noon I had her at my vet! Bad news...MY vet says she has bilateral inguinal hernia; she has open fontanel, mild entropion and a very bald spot at the base of her left ear. She also had very very bad tapeworms.

On the bright side, though, she is a very bouncy, energetic little 1.6 lb. little fluffball!!!!

Anyway, I phoned the breeder, explaining nicely all the things the vet told me.

Oh, I forgot this...probably important! The vet said (my vet that is) that the open fontanel is pretty normal and prominent in the chihauhau(sp) breed, but not many other dogs have this even as newborns. I will say, that when my vet said that, she did not know that this breeder also breeds chihauhau's as well as yorkies. But when I told her that, she just smiled and said she suspected the male chi dog got to the yorkie female and sired this puppy while the yorkie male had sired the littermate.

So, anyway, the breeder swears up and down 100% positive absolutely that there is no way this not a full blooded yorkie puppy, despite her coloring and the other things the vet found. I did ask her to pay 1/2 on a DNA test to determine if the yorkie male is indeed the father. She agreed to that, then immediately (she was very upset w/me--tho I was trying to be very nice and calm)said she'd call me back.

That was yesterday early evening, I called today at noon and left her a msg saying I felt that I just needed to return the dog and asked her to call me. She has not retuned my call yet today or from yesterday.

Since I have a very strong feeling I am not going to hear back from her, my reason to post here asking for advice is to ask several things:

1. IS the open fontanel typical in all dogs? yorkies inclusive?

2. does this make sense in ANY FASHION that this little puppy could possibly the result of the white genes in a yorkie line?

3. If she does not return my calls and I can't get any result w/her, is there somewhere I can file a complaint against her or do anything about this situation?

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do next? She did register the pup with CKC and both parents are also registered thru CKC.

Thanks. Sally

Default pup

An open fontanel happens in Yorkies and most toy breeds..ususlly the smaller pups are the ones who can have them...if it is small, it should close and be no trouble. Not too concerned about the hernias..or "ovaries" as your vet thinks...tapeworms can be rid with meds...the bald spot could be due tot he fact she had fleas and scratched the hair off..fleas bring tape worms.

The entropia would bother me..surgery could be needed. The fact she had CHi's would make me think the pup is a mix, since the pup is CKC, I do not see where it matters because CKC registers mixes...you can DNA the pup without the breeders input..

I would ask for compensation for vet fees..(don't hold your breath). If you did not pay a lot of money for this "rare" puppy, which is not "rare" and you want to "rescue" this needy baby, then get her healthy and love her. Best wishes..

I'm sorry if you were taken in by this women. If she was reputable she would have responded to you. I hope you love your pup, because I don't think your getting your money back. Can we see some pictures?

have you tried to google her name and see if anything comes back? that is horrible this has happened to you. if i were you, i would have the vet write up all the medical problems, send the letter sent to her certified. make sure on the envolope your name or address doesn't show up or she will not sign for it. then in the letter, place all of your demands.
these poor breeders needs to responsible for bringing these babies into the world.

How common are these open fontanels on yorkies? And.. is there any way to know what would be considered a bad/larger size on a pup. Also, is there any tests that can be done to ck for neurological disorders due to the compression in associations with the fontanel???? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a site once with puppies that looked like that, they called them golden yorkies, and I was under the impression that they are frowned upon and often over-priced as being "rare". Heres the site... do they look like your baby? http://coylesyorkie.com/id19.html Can you believe they are asking $3500 for that little girl?

Also, I think the white-gene the breeder was speaking of its called a biewer yorkie...but they are tri-colored, black/tan/white.

Does the breeder have a website?

Did you pick up the dog? Do you know where she lives?? What does your contract say?

You can always take her to small claims court for your vet bills. Or do you want her to refund your money and take the dog nack?
