| New to Yorkie Talk Hi Everyone, I don't have a Yorkie YET!. I have had dogs and cats all my life and recently found out I have allergies. Yikes! I see an allergist tomorrow. Hopefully soon I can start shots and be able to have my own Yorkie. My son thinks I'm crazy to spend the money and get shots just so I can have a pet. What do all of you think? Am I crazy? I think I'm just bored and a little lonely. Been reading all the Yorkie books I can find, and The dog whisperer books, and now I have found this site. I go to the pet stores just to play with the puppies there. (I know a lot are puppy mill puppies) I leave with hives and itching. I guess I will use that as a barometer as to how well my shots are working. I'm open to any advice and hoping to be able to provide a Furever home by February. |

| Hi! Welcome to YT I'm allergic to cats and some dogs, but I've never had an allergy problem with yorkies. But, if I developed an allergy, I'd be getting shots too!

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Hello and Welcome to YT. "Yorkies For Dummies" is the first one I recommend."Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide" is the second book. These are excellent resource books .Another book "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" Is very helpful. They are not as easy to housebreak. Good luck

| Yorkieblues follow-up Well, I saw the allergist. And no surprises I'm allergic to cats, dogs and dust. Have to talk to my insurance company then I'm going to start allergy shots. In 6 months I should be at maintenance. So hope to find my Furbaby by February. I hope I can wait that long. It seems forever. I also want to thank you for the book suggestions. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yorkies are the least likely dog to cause allergic reactions, so you may be able to have a Yorkie without all the issues. Anyhoo, I would be the same if I had a problem, I would rather suffer any shots or meds to be able to enjoy my darling Alfie.

| Gideon before and after grooming Gideon AKA Little Buddy, Buddy, Stink butt. Before and after grooming. He got sticker stuck in his fur at my daughters house. Walked through the laundry room and came out with a sock stuck to the stickers that where stuck to his butt. Too Funny until I had to try to get them out of his fur. | Welcome! I'm new here too. This is my first post i had severe allergy for three years straight and had the shots too, but I believe it was environmental because the allergy went away on its own after I moved to a new home. If your allergy is to pet dander, you can control it by bathing your dog once a week. It works and it helps them with their allergies as well. I just adopted a rescued Yorkie 3 weeks ago. She's all wrong, as she is way too big (10 lbs) and suffered hairloss due to neglect from her breeder and a skin allergy. But what a wonderful personality she has! She has stolen my heart faster than any of my other dogs did. I have two Schnauzers, one of them also rescued. I hope you are ok to get your own Yorkie soon too. They are truly a blessing. |
