| Recommended small breed vet for spaying? *I am cross posting this from the Yorkie Health section, into the regional section for my state* Lorelei turns one year old in November, and we want to have her spayed. She has had one heat cycle already (around August) but she is so tiny our vet recommended we wait a few more months until she turned 1. At one year she only weighs about 2-2.5lbs. She was the runt of the litter and is really tiny. I have heard so many horror stories about tiny Yorkies not waking up from anesthesia or other complications. I am absolutely terrified at the prospect of having Lori spayed. Right now I am torn, I wouldn't mind her coming into heat as my male is already neutered and we can buy those little diapers for her but she still has several baby teeth that need to be pulled. Which I know they usually do at the same time as spaying. Does anyone have any advice for me? Or better yet know of a great vet in Indianapolis, IN that they have used before?

| I know how you feel. A few years ago my Abby was the same age and size as yours is now. I really did not want to have her spayed but after many nights worring about it, I chose to have her spayed. 1st Make sure lab work is done 3-5 days prior to surgery, not the morning of surgery. 2nd Alot of Vets insist that they stay overnight at the vets after surgery. Do not agree to this. Mine suggested it but he said "knowing me I know this is not an option !" 3rd Make sure you do not have to get up early for anything (like work) the day after her surgery. I slept in my office with Abby in a bed on the floor next to me. I set the alarm clock every 2 hrs so I could just "check on her and then went right back to sleep, and the next day I was at home all day with her. Abby had no problems after her surgery and 2 days later she was good as new. 4th Have faith and trust in your vet. I did. Good luck !!! Let me know what you decide. | Thanks for the great advice! Especially about the lab work being done ahead of time, I hadn't even thought of that. Luckily I am a stay at home mom, so she will be with me 24/7 just like always. I will keep everyone updated as to what we plan to do. *hugs*
