Animal Smiley 049 Breeders

Looking at getting a male yorkie puppy but want a reputable breeder. Anyone heard of Tony's happy puppies in Hampshire IL? Know of any other good breeders in the same area- DeKalb IL, Rockeford IL, Naperville IL?

Thanks

When you do find a Yorkie breeder, be sure to go to their home, look at how they live and how the dogs live, then decide if they are reputable or just a BYB in it for money only.

Yes, this is so important, you can't tell by just talking with someone over the phone, please take the time to find a good breeder, and make sure what they are saying is the truth! I always recommend the mother club of the AKC the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, there is a common misconception that only those who are planning to breed or show should get quality dogs, but YTCA members are looking for good homes to place pets that for one reason or another won't be used in breeding. These dogs could be perfect specimens, and just be too small for breeding, so don't overlook YTCA members if you think you can offer a dog a good home. Of course, if you are planning to breed or show, you should definitely try to one find a YTCA member who would be willing to mentor you. Here's a link to YTCA members in ILLINOIS. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club. Whoever you decide upon, please visit the home. Best of luck!

Animal Smiley 049 Tony's happy puppies

I plan to visit the breeders but would still like to find someone who can give some feedback about them. I have had trouble finding breeders that live close to me. I contacted the only YTCA listed breeder that is close to me and she is no longer doing any breeding.
I really want to make sure I am doing everything I can to not support a bad breeder.
Tony's happy puppies is the breeder I have spoken with. Anybody heard anything?

I'm glad you are looking for a good breeder. I checked out Tony's puppies, and I do not recommend you going to that breeder. It looks like a puppy mill to me. Several indications are the fact that they sell mulitple breeds, some breeders might sell two breeds, but anything over that is a huge red flag, this breeder sells 6 breeds as well as mixed breeds. They are in the business of selling dogs, they are not a quality breeder. This thread has some good information on finding a breeder. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ml#post2456681

That was my main concern. I did some research and read that breeders with multiple breeds should be concerning. I thought maybe since they said they provide lifetime support I could look beyond it. However, I spoke with the family and they are not AKC registered, they are CKC. I am really only familiar with AKC so I would be more comfortable finding another breeder. Thanks for the responses. Any contact info for a suburban Chicago breeder would be greatly appreciated.

Default WONDERFUL Breeder has posted here!

We in the Midwest are extremely fortunate to have a fantastic provider of beautiful and well-bred Yorkies right here, and she has already posted a response here in this thread! I am referring to Breny, or Brenda Green. We were so fortunate to discover her right on this site, and on March 8th of this year, we were united with the little Yorkie puppy who has become the love of our life, Giselle, who more commonly now goes by her nickname Gizzy.
If you go to her website, the link for which is up there in her response, please read my posts in the "happy new owners" and "sign my guestbook" sections. You cannot believe what an incredible personality and temperament our Yorkie has! All of our friends comment on how well behaved she is, and how quiet! I would never buy a Yorkie from anyone but Brenda, and the details as to why are in those sections I mentioned. Yes, it is a drive from your and my locations in Illinois. But my wife and I made a fun weekend trip out of it, and it is the smallest price to pay to enjoy the benefits of obtaining your Yorkie from a terrific breeder who has superior bloodlines that result in an exceptional example of the breed. Just one last thing - I get many compliments about how thick and shiny her coat is, and I have seen other "Yorkies" for whom that sadly is not the case. As you can tell, I am totally, totally ecstatic about the great fortune we have had in finding Brenda, and I would urge you to do whatever it takes to obtain your Yorkie from her, if you want to have a similar super-positive experience! - Gray

Default i hope you found a healthy puppy!

Please be advised!!!! Tony's Happy Puppies in Hampshire, IL is AWFUL!!!
We just purchased a puppy from there and he got sick 3 days later. Took him to the vet and he has Parvo!! This is my 19 daughters first puppy of her own and I had to watch her say goodbye to him just in case she never sees him again.
The Vet told me to contact the breeder right away so they can be ready in case any of their other puppies get sick and the woman (breeder) could have cared less!! I couldn't believe it!!! She did not care one bit that all her puppies may have Parvo and the only thing she said was bring me the puppy and I will give you your money back. Yeah right!!! Like that's gonna happen!! So I said why don't you just give me the money I paid you toward the vet bill and she said no. My vet told me that a reputable breeder would help out and stuff, so obviously we know what that means. I called the State Of IL Dept of Agriculture as soon as I got off the phone with her!! Let's hope they shut this place down!! Tell everyone you know not to use this breeder!!!

I would definately stay away from Tonys Happy Puppys. Has many breeds of dogs not just Yorkies; red flag. Advertises in the Daily Herald; I called once about a real low price on a Yorkie in his ad and was told it was a "typo".; funny thing ad stayed in paper unchanged for another three weeks.

Default looking for a reputable breeder

I also saw the ad in the daily herald for tonys happy puppies. first of all, the english on the website is awful and I don't think any professional would let typos be allowed on the website if they really wanted to be taken seriously. I also wanted to check this place out, but now that I know a reputable breeder wouldn't sell 2+ breeds, I am not going to communicate with them any more. It is very difficult finding a reputable breeder in/around my area. all i want is a yorkie puppy. whyyyy is it soooo difficulllllttttttt. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Yorkietalk. I'm glad your puppies are healthy, did you see for yourself where the breeding dogs were kept? This is so important if we want to stop puppy millers. If you look at the picture of his facility, it looks like he's a commercial breeder. Tony's.jpg Not all commercial breeders treat their dogs inhumanely, but they aren’t breeding to improve the breed and usually have the minimum standards as far as what state law permits. Also these particular breeders are breeding at least six breeds plus mixes. These are HUGE red flags, and I would never recommend this breeder. Any breeder who’s breeding mixes is purely profit motivated and could care less about the dogs and their placement.
