| How cold before putting sweater on? At what temperature do you start putting sweaters on your Yorkies? I usually gauge it by "if I need a jacket, then Bitsy needs a sweater". In the past two weeks, I've been getting some very annoying comments from a few women when I've been on my walk. One woman has a poofy toy poodle. She's usually very pleasnt, but the other day I ran into her. Bitsy had her Minnie Mouse sweater on. The woman says to me "it's not cold, why is she wearing a sweater?". I replied, "well, your wearing a jacket..." Then I saw the same woman a few days ago and it was raining a few hours prior. I had Bitsy in her sweater and her little booties so her feet doesn't get all wet and cold. This time the woman said to me "So now she has to wear booties? Poor thing". Another time, I was walking Bitsy and ran into a woman walking her Golden. I was commenting on how gorgeous her dog is and she was petting Bitsy telling me how cute she is. Then she said "you know she doesn't have to wear a sweater, thats why they have fur." Now, if Bitsy hated wearing her sweater or her boots or anything else, I wouldn't force the issue. Bitsy doesn't like wearing boots so much (she walks like a spastic ballerina for the first 10 minutes in them), but she doesn't mind the clothes. She acts like she doesn't even notice that they're on. I'm usually not one to let things get to me, but for some reason, these comments really bother me. These women make me feel like either I'm a)torturing my dog or b)acting like one of those froufrou starlettes aka Paris Hilton. My favorite colour is pink, so all of Bitsy's things are very cute and very pink. I, on the other hand dress like a total bum when walking her. I usually have on old sweat pants, no makeup and my hair in a baseball cap.... I guess I just need to vent and get some reassurance that I am doing the right thing for my baby. Thanks for reading. |

| Tell them to leave the bitchiness to the dogs. Don't even bother wasting your time educating them on yorkies and their needs, their heads are so high up their own butts they couldn't hear you anyway. Back to your original question, if I wear a jacket Chip wears his jacket, now that I made him a heavy winter coat when I wear my heavy coat, he wears his heavy coat. | Sorry, I got so carried away with the old "Bats" I forgot to answer your question. If it's under 50 a sweater goes on when the temps drop into the 30's the coat goes on. When it snows I put both on for his walks. I keep the house warm so I don't want him getting sick going out in the very low temps. |

| Bats...HAHAHAHAH!! Amen! You gave the best answer when you said that she had a jacket on. Next time, tell her Bitsy is wearing panties and a bra too!!

| I think it depends on how big she is, the smaller ones tend to be colder than the bigger ones..My big yorkie would suffocate if I even got a sweater near her. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if its cold enough for me to want a jacket then i put a hoodie or something on morgan. I don't bother with the booties. i do think they are rather silly unless you like in alaska like eddie and jack where there is tons of snow. the hoodie or jacket only goes on if we're going for a walk. if its just out for a quick pee we both suffer the two minutes and then run back inside.

| I had my Jack out the other day and I think it was around 48 , he was only out for about five minutes and I could see him shivering, so no one can tell me they don't get cold.....it's fur for Pete's sake not suit of armor....I think there so small they have a harder time retaining their body heat like babies.... If you prefer to remain polite to nosy people like that you could tell them.... "Thank you for pointing that out.".....or.... "I'll take that under consideration"..

| "They do not have fur, but rather hair, similar to ours. They can not be left outdoors in the cold as they will freeze to death in cold weather. Unlike other dogs, they have no undercoat to keep them warm." I have two yorkies and both get cold very easily. They will start to shiver when temperature is less than 60 degrees. I just hate it when people make rude comments without knowing the facts. Such ignorance! |

| aurora has been getting where she shivers now that its getting colder and she will let me dress her. If she is not cold, she will run and hide under the couch to avoid getting dressed, if she does that I leave her be. UNLESS we are about to leave and it is cold out. She has her little jacket that says beauty queen that looks like a letterman jacket, when I get that out, she knows we are going bye bye. She is sooooo excited to get her jacket on. She also has a stroller and I get comments about that at times. Some people think she is adorable in her stroller. I walked with my ex to the store to get his beer. I was waiting outside with aurora in her stroller, since dogs are not allowed in if they sell food. The guys that work there said we could come in. He just oh and ah over her. Then he noticed her coat too. She was just eating up all the attention. There will be people that have to make their comments but you and your baby are happy and warm so who cares about their ignorant comments.

its hard to not let things like that bother you.. cuz when people are ignorant and rude, it is so annoying!! it just bugs. but trust me.. i do the same thing.. if i need a jacket ill put one on Avie.. or even if she doesnt need something on..and i put a shirt on her, oh well, why does anyone else care. i just dont understand why other people care so much what other people are doing(its not harming anyone and really is none of their business, if they are gonna be so bitter about it. ) i guess i just dont understand how some people have the nerve to say something so rude!!(i would never say anything like that, especially to a stranger.. so i think it just bothers me when people are like that to me or others) Anyways.. i say put a sweater, shirt, etc. etc. etc. whenever you feel necessary.. OR just cuz!! like you said before-you arent torturing your dog by putting clothes on her..if they werent so ignorant(and didnt just talk out of their you know whats..) they would know that yorkies dont have undercoats, which makes them have hair not fur, like most dogs(for instance FLUFFY POODLES with BRATTY OWNERS haha.), which means our lil ones need that extra warmth(plus they are so small). anyways.. i say tomorrow you go buy her a new outfit!! haha. ..and go for a nice LONG walk!! OH yeah.. to touch on the "your lil girl wears pink(cuz its ur fave.) and on walks especially ur usually in casual clothes(sweats, etc.)" I agree!! its not like ur taking a hike in ur mini skirt and heels..with ur well dressed puppy(who you really only have cuz you want to be like a celebrity" PuuuhLEASE (and even if so.. WHO CARES-that would be kinda wierd scenario..haha. but WHATEVER right?)? ..i just wish some people could relax and enjoy life..instead of making it a point to speak their ignorant minds in an inappropriate way, for the well being of what or who....???? ya know? XO.
