Default Childless Yorkie Owners of Childbearing Age

Do you plan on having kids?
Is having a Yorkie enough to satisfy your maternal instinct?
Do you feel your Yorkie might be threatened by a new member?
Have you given up the idea of children altogether because you're obsessed with your dog?

Discuss!

Hi Junebug. No kids here...I had my hubby neutered...but he does have a son that we raised B.Y. (that's before yorkies). At this point in my life a Yorkie is plenty for me but I wouldn't mind another one. Even though we didn't have kids of our own we did have foster daughters and they all loved Boog and he loved them. As far as the obsession part goes...well...I gave up on having kids long before I became obsessed with my Yorkies!

I'm not childless, i have a wonderful 6 year old son, but I do not plan on having anymore kids - if you hit perfection the first time, why try for more!!! After I lost my dog last year, and my son started to get older and not need me for basics like making a sandwich or brushing his teeth, I felt very sad, like I wasn't needed anymore. With a 6 year old, this is silly I know. After I got Chewy, he was like a new baby for me and he has brought me immense joy. I love taking care of him and I love it when he's trying to do something and can't, he just looks up at me like Mommy help me! He brings me such happiness - except when he poos on my rugs.

Well... Im 37 years old,,, No children,, have been with the same guy for 6 years, he has 3 kids ,,21,19, and 11,,
I often wonder if someday I might regret not having kids. But, then I think , if I dont regret it by now, I probably wont.
I have always been an animal lover ,, Not much of a baby person,,
if there was a little baby and a box of kittens, I'd go for the kittens everytime! (LOL)
So, I always wanted a yorkie since Iwas in jr high and my hairdresser had one, and I remember saying " thats the cutest dog I've ever see, what kind is it?"
So, after alot of apartment living I said " when I get my own home I WILL have a Yorkie"
And thats just what I did, and I love him to death, and the thought of having kids, or missing out on anything, hasn't really entered my mind since I got him. He keeps me too busy, and he is my baby, my Mom has even accepted the fact that this IS HER GRANDchild, and my dads getting used to it also, with his "fathers day card from his grandson Bailey!"
So, I'm completely content with my life as Mother of the cutest little boy I could have ever wanted!

Tongue Newly wed

So I'm 23 and have a 10 month Yorkie and no "skin" children. We've been married for 10 months as well. We actually have our 2nd little female Yorkie coming in August . We plan on having kids in about 5-6 years. We just weren't ready for kids yet and won't be for a while. I am, too, obsessed with Yorkies and I'm sure one day we'll be one big happy family with both children and Yorkies.

I'm with you Rhonda...I always gravitated to the kittens and puppies over the babies. I wanted a Yorkie since grade school when I saw my first one and fell in love. I don't feel I've missed out on anything either and my Mom comes to see her 'grand-dog' quite often. We always include them in vacations, pictures and on our Christmas cards with a little paw print by their name.

Hi! I am 26 - I'll be 27 next month. I'm not sure if I'll have children or not. I've always wanted them, but now I feel like it would take attention away from my Yorkies. I don't know...maybe I'll feel differently in a few years.

I feel the exact same way! I will be 27 in September. My husband and I are planning to have children in 5 years or so, but right now I do not have any desire for kids. I have never been much of a kid person, but hopefully it will be different when they are my own. Currently, my boys fulfill all of my maternal instincts and do not leave me wanting for anything more!

I fit into this category! GREAT THREAD IDEA!

To be honest, this is one of the main reasons that we got a yorkie to begin with. When my hubby and I first got married, we moved into a new city. Once our house was organized and the "newness" started wearing off, I began to get lonely.

(It took me 6 months into our marriage to even find a job....and Lord knows I tried.) Anyway, we adopted Sully after we had been married 9 months and he was everything I wanted and tons more.

I was lonely, and needed a companion. I needed a friend. I needed someone who needed me. I needed someone to nurture and take care of. I wanted to feel appreciated. Getting a yorkie to fill these gaps in my life was one of the best things I've ever done.

Don't get me wrong, I love my husband. He is the best companion and friend I could ever ask for! I love him and enjoy taking care of him, and yes, most of the time I do feel appreciated by him. (I know I am but sometimes men don't always show it, you know.)

I hope one day to have kids...maybe in about 5 years? Many MANY of my friends have children or are pregnant now...and I'm just not ready to give up the life I have. I really love my life with it just being my husband, Sully, me and my cat Penny. I enjoy my freedom and my lifestyle.

I really do feel that having a yorkie satisfies my maternal instinct, for now....and yes, I do feel that I will be able to put off having children longer because of yorkie(s)!

My hubby and I BOTH love our yorkie ....actually my HUSBAND was the opne to insist on getting a yorkie in the 1st place. Hybby is just begging to get another one! I'm anxious too but we both know we must wait until after our move, after we get settled in and all in our new home, city, etc (we're moving in mid august) - then we'll start looking for a new four-legged addition to our family!

......aaaaaand in maybe a few years after that, we'll start thinking about having children of our own, but for now, we just want lots of yorkies!! When we do have children, though, we know that Sully will be excited to have a new "sibling".

(My aunt and uncle who have a yorkie just had a child two years ago....they call her their 2nd child - and their yorkie their 1st! Haha!)

P.S. There is a lady who works at the local courthouse, a dog-lover, and we enjoy our chats about dogs, twice a week.

Anyway, she's closer to my mom's age than mine, but she adamantly chose having dogs over children. She always says, "You hold up a baby and a puppy next to each other and I'll run straight for the puppy every time!"
I always thought that was a funny way of putting it, LOL.

I'd like to add - that in 5 years or so, if I decide not to have children, I will probably breed Yorkies. I think it will have to be one or the other, but not both. I guess we'll see what the future brings!

I can answer this one! I am 29 and cannot have children (per the medical industry, but i still secretly hope and have faith)! Simon and Hallie have completely filled the void for me! I have never been married so when I do find a relationship that may change but I really don't think so. I feel as though I gave birth to these 2 and I cannot imagine a better love!

I got my first dog after my first misscarriage and never looked back really - we had to make a decision a couple of years later whether to carry on trying for a baby or accept we'd be childless and decided dogs were better for us than children. So far 21 years later we haven't regretted the decision once !

Hi! I am 27 and will have been married for 2 years in November. We definitately want children, just not right now. We just love our little Zeus so much and he is enough for now. I think we might try for a child in 1-2 years and yes I am very worried about how Zeus will react. He is a "mama's boy" for sure and I don't know how he will deal with the competition. I know when the time comes, I will be coming to you all for advice!!
