| If they haven't dropped by now, they are most likely not going to on their own. It's called Cryptorchidism and it is genetic. The "testicles' you thought you saw when he was arroused were most likely not testicles at all but the bulb of the penis that swells when they start to have an erection. You even more so want to neuter a cryptorchid dog because they have 10times the chance of developing cancer with their testicles trapped inside of their abdomen. Also, a cryptorchid is not fertile because the the testicle being in the abdomen causes the sperm to be in an environment that is too hot for it to be viable. You would not want to breed a cryptorchid dog if possible either because it is genetic and something you don't want to pass on in the lines...

| My pup was nuetered at 7 months and had one testicle that never dropped. The vet had to "pop" out the one that was hidden. She told me at that time I should contact his breeder and let her know this had happened as it was information she should have for her breeding program. Evidently it is a genetic thing -- so it also might make your puppy ineligible to breed (but I am by no means and expert on this, so don't quote me!). Good luck!

| We had the same situation with our little guy Hank. His testicles were retained and had to be removed surgically. In fact he had bladder stones at one point and they did both the surgeries at the same time. That saved him from having to have two surgeries. He did fine. We were also advised about the cancer risk by a couple of vets. He could never have been a dad but we weren't planning on breeding anyway. He did just great after the surgery. |

| You can have him neutered now. Any weight over 2lbs is supposed to be safe. I'd have a consultation with the vet to see what they suggest - if they think its better go ahead and do the surgery now or if there is any chance his testicles might drop..I doubt they will though. It's going to be a more invasive surgery like a spay since they are in his abdomen so the surgery will cost more than a regular neuter.
