| Advice please......... Matty is supposed to go to her new home next week. I am worried about her "state of mind" when she gets there. She has been with a family of 13 people, 9 dogs and one cat since she was born. We used a stud and the contract was for $500 or a puppy. Lady had 2 puppies and one died. We discussed it, my husband and me, me and the stud's mom. She said she would stud for free next time, if I decided to give her the puppy. I thot this was a good deal and agreed. The stud's parents moved and are living in a travel trailer until their house is finished. The problem now is I'm worried because she is so socialized and the new parents will in all probablity put her in the kennel instead of keeping her with them. I spoke to the husband and that is what he suggested, but he said the wife is the one who makes the decisions. I haven't talked to her yet. Hubby and I talked it over again and I wondered if you all thought it would be an alright thing for me to say no to the mom if she wants to keep her out in a kennel? Or should I just stick to the agreement? |

| Oh, Sylvia~ What a tough decision. We have enjoyed your stories about Matty so much and she is such an adorable little thing. I hope you decide to keep her with you. A kennel is no place for her, imo. She would be bored to death after the activity at your house. I am not telling you to break your contract, but simply negotiate a new one. If she is a caring person surely she will understand and work with you on this. Maybe she will welcome you keeping her since she is in a trailer and all. I hope so for Matty's sake. Good luck with your decision. |

| I think you should say that the intial agreement was based upon your thought that the dog would be raised in the same or better environment that it is/was accustomed too...and that you think it would be in the best interest for the dog for you to keep the dog until they are able to have him roam freely as he does in your home and not be in a kennel constantly or maybe when they are better situated they can have a pup from another litter to breed?

If it was me, I would keep the baby, before I would let somebody keep her in a kennel in a travel trailer. "Just Say No".

| Why would she pay for a kennel and not keep the puppy comfortable with you until she is ready? Unless they plan to resell the puppy. Heck even if I was stuck in trailer I would keep my dogs with me. I can understand why you feel uneasy about what is going on. If she told me that she would not keep the puppy with her I would think she was going to sell it. I think if ever decide to breed Mya I will pay a stud fee. I could see myself hiding a pup or something........lol

| puppy You need your own stud dog and be rid of these pick of the litter deals..they are too emotional and costly. Couldn't you sell her yourself and pick the home..and then pay the breeder her fee? Good LUCK TO YOU. |

I would talk to her and see what she says. If she is going to keep her in a kennel I would not let her go I would keep her.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | You can try to talk to her with a new agreement lets say, the pup stays with you till their house is finished, but if she insists that she gets the pup, you're SOL.

| Thanks for the opinions everyone. You don't know how much your support means to me. I have to talk to the stud's mom and if she says she is planning on keeping Matty in the trailer with her, I'll go ahead and let her have Matty. If not, it's going to hit us hard but we're going to try to keep Matty. I have considered trying to make a new agreement or offering to keep Matty until the house is built but I don't know if the house is even started. We could be really, REALLY attached to her by then. It can take 6 months out here to build a house. It's like they start it, run out of money and have to save up some more and then work on it some more. MeganS.: Where she lived before was over an hour's drive away, now it's over 2 hours away and we just don't go up to the area where she moved. Luzangela: I like both of your ideas. I had thot of offering her a puppy from a future litter but wasn't sure if the idea had merit. Now that someone else has had the same idea maybe it would work. She shouldn't breed Matty back to her father and by the time my next female comes in heat Mr. Big ought to be old enough to do the job. Stitches and Mya's Mom: She is a breeder. She is moving on some land near her daughter who is also a breeder. They already have a kennel, they mainly raise 2 types of bull dogs. French and something else. They just have a few Yorkies. It doesn't seem like they are branching out into Yorkies, just keeping the ones they have. Mya's Mom: Hubby also had the idea that they might be just wanting to sell Matty. It's possible but stud's mom wanted a female from my Lady. Yorkie Rose - Pat isn't it? - I didn't have a stud at the time when Lady came in heat and I do now. He should be almost/maybe old enough to breed when Autumn comes in heat again, earliest 3 months from now. He should be almost 9 months. But I'm not sure I'll use him that early. I can use his father, his owner is a lot more friendly and seems a lot more reasonable. And lives a lot closer. So if nothing further changes I'm going to: 1. Talk to stud's mom and see where she is planning on keeping Matty. 2. If she plans on putting Matty out in a kennel I'm going to ask for a renegotiation of our contract. Thank you all and I'll let you know what happens as soon as I know anything. Sylvia |
