| Is he big for his age? Hi everyone - I am curious to know whether or not my little Deegan is big for his age or what. I brought him home last weekend, and took him to the vet that Monday. He was 9 weeks old exactly and the vet's office weighed him at 2.5 lbs. There are about 2 other people at my work who have yorkies, and they cringe and tell me that he's a porker when I tell them how much he weighs. He is my first yorkie, so i don't know what to think. The breeders that I bought him off of said that he would probably be about 5-6 lbs, while my vet told me maybe even 8 or 9lbs. I hope that he stays about he 5-6lbs, but I will love him regardless. It's just been bothering me not knowing what to expect. Do you think that he's going to be a large yorkie? |

| I think it depends on what you consider "large" Sully is 9 pounds now, fully grown. (almost 11 months old) When he was 10 weeks old, he weighed 3.2 pounds. (This is the day after we adopted him. ) Hope that helps! We couldn't love the little guy any more no matter what he weighed though. He's got the best little personality of any dog I've ever met!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | you're best best will be to take his weight at 12 weeks and double it. That will give you an estimate as to his adult size. Yorkies go through a growth spurt between 8-12 weeks and it's possible that this is all it is.

| you wanna hear big? Angel's pups at 6 weeks weighed 2 pounds 8 oz, 2 pounds 7 ounces and 2 pounds 2 ounces. By the time they are 9 weeks they will probably be like 4 pounds lol

| He may be a little bigger then the teeny tiny yorkies. But he isn't huge by any means. Keeley was 3 pounds at 10 weeks. The vet said he'd be about 7ish (I am guessing 8). But even 8 pounders are still small dogs! Don't worry too much, I felt exactly as you described when I found out how much Keeley really weighed. I felt a little decieved by the breeder, but now (3 1/2 weeks later) I feel so much better and really don't mind that Keeley may end up to be a little bigger then I thought at first. There are SO many cute Yorkies here that weigh around and more then 8 pounds and seeing all their cute pictures really helped me see that they are cute (and small) no matter how much they weigh! Hope that helps. Last edited by Meg; 06-25-2005 at 03:48 PM. |

I have compared him to other yorkies that we met at a dog festival two weeks ago and I noticed that he's the same size around as 6-7lb yorkies but Sully is like 4 inches longer. He fits fine into size Small dog clothes...but his shirts just look short on him b/c he's got such a long torso. My husband has a "soul patch" (a patch of hair right under his bottom lip above his chin) - and Sully has a white patch of hair in the "same spot" on him and we tell him that he takes after his daddy! And I have to special order swimsuits because I have such a long torso'd body.........its so funny how "our baby" "takes after" me too, his adopted mommy. A funny set of coincidences! Scary, isn't it? LOL!!!!! We say it was just meant to be

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I would tell you to be happy to have a bigger yorkie...all the tiny ones have such health issues that is incredible and we know from experience...Magic is just over 4lbs and she had been sick numberous of times, while Sailor is well over 5 lbs and has never been sick...the more they weigh the better off they will be!!!

| From time to time vets are zealous about the weight of a pup . Mine told me that Gioia was going to be 7 to 8 pounds as an adult , she only went to 3 pounds 4 ounces . |
