| Advice on biting/nipping/chewing (kinda long but pleaseeee help!) Lilly is currently 3 months and some odd days old. She started out just barely trying to nip at our toes and fingers and we thought it would eventually get better but it's getting worse. I've read on other forums on YT about puppies biting on fingers and toes and how it gets better but it's beginning to get the best of me. I'm not really sure what we should do about it. The only time we're able to hold her is when she's tired or extremely calm which is rare and it kills me, I wanna be able to hold her whenever I want to and not have to worry about being tore to shreds. She's started getting where she won't let up, we've told her no, used the water bottle method, everything and she just won't let up, it's almost like she's started to bite harder too. I can lay down on the floor to play with her and she goes straight for my face trying to bite me. I know they say something about the socialization and obedience classes you can take them to but how old do they have to be? How much do they usually cost? and I'm not really sure if they'd even have something like that in the small town I live in. Someone just please help, I feel like her biting and everything has caused me to not give her as much attention and it makes me feel like such a bad mom the way she looks at me and everything. AHHH!

| Awe I feel your pain, literally. Harley is 5 months and loves to bite my hands. I usually have to put my hands behind my back and tell him no. If that doesn't work I get up or put him down, so he gets the idea that biting is a no-no. I also try distracting him with toys. I know he is teething and wants to chew, he's a pup....but my hands are not chew toys, lol.

| hi... i am no expert...but i have had several dogs with this problem and the best way i found to stop it was by giving them no attention when they bit... even fussing or telling them no IS attention.... at the first sign of a nip...put the furbaby down somewhere away from where you are... show them attention when they come back but if they nip put them right back down .... i found that affectionate breeds such as yorkies do respond to this in a short time...but be persistant... good luck to you.... |

| obedience/socialization classes are best when it's young. 3 months is probably a good time to start. there are some smaller towns around my city that have plenty of dog shows/obedience trainers. some breeders are actually trainers as well. if you have a vet in your town, ask them if they know of any trainers/classes. im sure they'll have some leads for you. if your pup is biting, he's teething. put one of those teething rings in his mouth - some of them actually have the ability to clean their teeth too! they have them at all pet stores. good luck! |
