| Do you give your vet gifts? I am becoming one of "those" clients that probably should. Ellie's vet has gotten too many calls from me in the last month. All have been necessary though. She charged me for a recheck last time instead of an exam so it was $15 cheaper (don't tellt he owner ). Now she is getting very frustrated and concerned about Ellie's liver and UTI problems. We have put her through it. So, how many others here sent gifts to their vets (especially around the holidays)? Does etiquette say you have to send it to the vet office or can you send it to just the vet? There are actually 9 vets in there and I want to just send it to her so it will be more personal. The question I actually wanted to ask though is what do I send? Any ideas? I would rather not make a donation to an animal organization in her honor since I don't know one she likes..

| I would send it to the office, or at the very least send one to the vet and another like cookies or something to the vet's staff. remember behind every good vet is a good staff!!!

| It's almost similar to hospitals. Sometimes, families give gifts to the nurses (my mom gets chocolates and flowers on occasion). So I guess it's something that is up to you. Sounds like you vet goes out of her way, so I don't see why a Thank-You card would be a good starting point. Sometimes, just a little thing like that makes a person's day, and they'll continue to show their dedication to you and your family pets in the future. It's the thought that counts! Good luck. |

| My vet and I were talking once about how often they have to wash their hands so I gave her a bottle of really nice hand lotion. I've also given the whole office a big fruit basket at Christmas. Just a couple suggestions

| Well, how do I say this. Some people there are nice and do a good job, but some could use practice. If it was for the techs and receptionists, I may not go there. Sometimes they even forget to give Ellie's vet her messages...

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I give mine boxes of Fannie May chocolates (good candy) usually at Christmas and one other time a year. I take enough for the staff and the vets. I thik it has helped me get my girls in in an emergency. We are at the vets so much they know it's Maya before we get ot the counter from her barking.

| I give gifts to everyone who does a service for me. Vet. mail carrier, gardener, (use to give to school bus drivers) Doctor, dentist and so on. It's usually See's candies, tin of mixed nuts or cookie and such. Just a little something to let them know I'm thinking of them too. |

| Besides our 2 schnauzers we have the yorkie. Well, one of my schnauzers is a toy. She is overweight now, lol, but weighs about 10lbs. When we first got her, we found out she had Wellingbrand's disease. There are 3 vets at our office and only one knew what to do. She actually brought her back from death. I gave her a Christmas present that year because I was so grateful for her saving my baby's life. I think its good to also get the staff something, cookies, box of candy etc. I know the other two vets probably didn't like it very much, but I just wanted to show my appreciation to her. This year they will get something they can all share. I think its a very nice jester. |

| You guys are so thoughtful. For some reason it never crossed my mind to give my vet a gift. I'll have to think of something to get them. Mine are both men, one older and one middle age. They are in a small town, they kind of remind me of old country doctors. Doubt they'd want hand lotion but I'm sure they'd appreciate something. Thanks for making me think about this.

| I have never gifted my vet, or my doctor, or my dentist. I pay them a fee to perform a service and as such don't feel a gift is necessary. I do, however, send cards and thank you's. I go online to give high ratings to my dentist and other providers whenever I find the opportunity to do so. I also refer friends to their offices.

And not to try to sound like I'm trying to justify myself, but from working at doctor's (regular doctors- not a vet) offices, food and treats was never appreciated (especially by the doctors). Half the time it was never mentioned who had dropped off candy, cookies, fruit, etc. | |

But, I'm surprised you would suggest a poinsettia as they are poisonous to animals....I love them, but never have them in my house. (Just for those that don't know is the reason I mentioned it) I would assume as long as they are up high they would be fine thou, I just happen to have a cat that jumps on everything.....

| gifts The first person on my gift list was always my long time vet...the gift they liked the best was making them lunch the week before Christmas..just 5 people. I made crab bisque, fancy sandwiches, English triffle and cookies.. Other times I gave my vet gift certs for dinner at a place he and his wife loved...he was a gem of a vet...came to my house in the middle of thenight..even came and picked up a dog that needed surgery when it snowed and I could not get out of the driveway... |
