| Traveling alone with my yorkie What do you all do when you travel alone with your yorkie? The restrooms at the rest stop on the interstates do not allow dogs in the restrooms. It is so hot in Florida, that I do not want to leave Copper in the car for even a short time. What do you do when you have to go to the restroom? Help!!!

| same problem Ann I sometimes travel to Houston/Galveston from Oklahoma City.....I have the same problem and I have chosen a risky but necessary tactic.....I eat in drive throughs only and park close to eat the food.....then I run in to the potty with the doors locked and the AC running....I try to make this less than 5 minutes....sometimes if there is a RV nearby.....I ask the family to keep an eye on my locked car.. I have even left a sign on the dash saying that I have an alarm system that disables the car if it is entered improperly. Actually that is only partly true...but if there is not a trustworthy looking family nearby....I resort to this It is a scary problem......I would be devastated if they were stolen....but I can't hold it for 9 1/2 hours. . | Use a bag I have traveled with my yorkie Boo all over the US. When ever I go inside somewhere like a rest area or even a store I simple put him inside his bag (over-sized purse) he lays down and no one even knows he's there. I have gotten caught a couple of times but no one really minds, most just think its cute. Many places in Florida will let you take small dogs like yorkie in as long as they are in a bag or pouch and are well behaved. It takes a little time for them to get use to being in a bag, the best thing is to practise. First just putting them in and out, then walking around, then take them to places you know won't get mad once they get use to it you can take them anywhere. I even took Boo in a couple of resturants. |

| I always take mine in the restrooms with me, but even though they are service dogs, no one has ever questioned me or asked me to "prove it". I cannot think of a valid reason not to allow dogs in the restrooms. Does anyone know why they are prohibited? |

| Most places like gas stations sell food and stuff like hotdogs or even have restaurants in them, I have been told I couldn't bring Mia in when I was travelling and I was just holding her in my hands. Now I just put her in a carrier and they dont even know, people carry big purses in all the time when they are travelling. I try to go to places where its one bathroom not one with several stalls so I can let her down with her potty pad and let her stretch her legs. |

| I have 2 doggie purses, but they both have a hole for the dog to stick his head out. Does anyone have a suggestion for one that looks like a purse? At my age, I do have to potty myself on a road trip, and would like to find a solution. My daughter lives 3 hours south of me in Florida, and I occasionally visit alone when my husband travels. I wish they would be a little more understanding about pooches on the road. Thanks for all of your suggestions. You are the greatest!!!!

| Ann the best investment I ever made was my Petote. I have a bunch of other carriers that are great for running errands and just for fun, but my Bali petote is perfect for travelling by car or plane. They make a less expensive version of my Bali now, its called the Roxy, and its just the perfect travel accessory! http://www.glamourdog.com/bali2.html Also they have a flap you can either keep closed or roll up so they can stick their head out. Mia and Emmy love theirs! Quote:

| Here are a few ideas for carriers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...981642366&rd=1 This one would be great and would easily be mistaken for a purse.: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...981673194&rd=1 |

OMG THEY ARE ONLY $75!!!!! I paid $299 for my bali bag when they FIRST came out. EEK! I've only used it a handful of times. No point now since I have 5 pups. Im not gonna take one and leave the rest home. That's just not fair. I should get together all the stuff I have for my babies that just doesnt get used, and sell it. I have handmade wood beds, dog carriers, clothes, etc. lol

Thanks, Brenda, I'll take a look. I will need something the next trip to my daughter's house. We drove all the way there and all the way back without stopping last weekend. For me, that is a long time to wait...I am sure it was for Copper, too. 3 hours there and then 3 hours back a couple of days later. Thanks for the site!
