Default For those of you w/boy yorkies

If you have a boy yorkie please tell me if they are fully house broken and do not mark in the house. I really am considering a girl but I dont want to rule out a boy just because of this!
Thanks

oh man... I just ADORE my boys!!! Personally I prefer boys myself.

HOWEVER...

My boys are 2 years old and not completely housebroken. They do not 'mark' so to speak but more like pee out of defiance. Mainly they pee in the house when Im getting ready to leave. I am a single woman who works full time though, so its been tough going to be consistent and housetrain them properly.

If you work at housebreaking and you get him fixed when he starts to mark, then you should be allset. Boys are so much fun!!! Im sure girls are too though! Good Luck with whatever you decide!

Dog

I have a boy Yorkie he is turning 7 months tomorrow and I have not had that problem. Although I did neuter him last month. But as of know he does not mark in my apartment or when we go to the dog park. He just pee's when he needs to that is all. He is trained to use pee pee pads and he doesn't pee anywhere else when he is at home by himself. I hope this helps, I guess as long as you neuter them before they get that behavior they won't mark around.

I have a boy. I got him at 13 weeks old. He was neutered by 7 months old. I had the normal potty training issues. He never hiked his leg to pee on something, but he would still have pee accidents around the house. It took about a year to potty train him, I use litter boxes and pee pads inside them.
He ONLY pees on the pee pads now. I trust him 100% in my home to only pee on pee pad or in the box.

He does however MARK outside and only outside.

My little guy is housebroken, and he does not mark. He is trained to go inside on pee pads. He was neutered at 9 months. He has a great personality, really lovable. I would totally recommend a boy!

Have the male neutered as soon as possible BEFORE marking if possible. My first yorkie Mickey (who is neutered) will NOT lift his leg in the house.... he'll use a pee pad if he has to go... now... my Butch and Rocky (who are not neutered)... will pee on just about anything!!!

Boys are very affectionate... but girls are easier to train... usually....

Diesel is 2 years old, housebroken, and has NEVER marked the house. He will however mark every single bush outside. LOL I had girls growing up and even tho they were very attached to me it wasn't like this. He has been very different. I don't know if it is becuase he is a boy or that he is just spoiled. LOL

I wanted to add that he isn't fixed yet either. He was also very easy to housebreak. Only took 6 months.

Loki was neutered at 6 months. He doesn't lift and he doesn't mark and he IS housetrained. He rings a bell to go outside. He is totally crate trained and house trained. He was about 1 year old before he was fully trained though, but he never lifted his leg on our furniture or anything. He typically had accidents by the door.

He does like to stop in every yard when we go on walks, but that's what being a dog is all about.

I am a boy person. Buddy is my first Yorkie and he was fully trained at 5mos.
He has never marked in my home or anyone else's. I have always had good
luck with the males that I have had.
Buddy was neutered at 6mos. I know that neutering prevents marking
in the males, however, if there is another male brought into the household
it may start up. When my son's male cavilier and my daughter's male
pug visit Buddy never marks. My daughter's pug does and it make me
so mad. I guess it depends on the dog. Males are just plain lover's.

Default I have a male yorkie

He has never marked our house. Opps, I lie, once he did when we first brought him home. He was 22 months old and lived with 3 other dogs. My Dh caught him lifting his leg and asked him " WHAT THE H....L DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?" and that was the end of that. He has been very good since. The woman I got him from said to watch out because he marked his territory but I think that was because of the other dogs and that he was not neutered. He is now.

I love my boy!!! Beau has been fully housebroken since he was around 18 weeks old (I got him at 12). My only thing I would suggest if you get a boy, get him neutured ASAP! I didn't neuture Roscoe (my mix breed) early enough and he started marking, but Beau got neutured early enough that he didn't know enough to start marking...in fact he still squats. He he he. The next yorkie I get is going to be a girl, for a couple of reasons. I really REALLY want to put dresses on her, I would LOVE to have a litter of my own babies, and I've never owned a girl before. Other than that though, I LOVE my boy!!!!

Buster is great....hes 6 months old, I got him when he was 3 months old. He just started raising his leg - but only does it when we are outside. When he has to go inside he does use the pee pads. Every once and awhile he'll have an accident. He is my frist dog, and I didnt really have an opinion whether I wanted a boy or girl. But I definetly LOVE having Buster...

Love 1 Boy!

I have 3 Yorkies, 1 male Artie, he is almost 4 yrs. old (3 months to go) and his mate Abigail and she is almost 3 yrs. old and their 1 yr. old baby girl Tiffany Aloha. Artie and Abigail chose each other when I went to the Breeders
House to look @ her Litter, so they have been inseperable and in Love since then. Since I have had all 3 since they were Puppies, they are all Balanced, Socialized and well Trained, Artie even understands 3 Languages, surfs, kayaks, swims etc. Abigail rides a Ninja ZX9, especially during "Bike Week", she is usually on the local News. Artie is definitly alot easier to Train and as far as House Breaking, he learned in 2 days! The females take alot longer, hide
all your Area Rugs! Artie never marks my House or anyone's House, even in the presence of another male. I do Breed them so both are not Nuetered or Spayed, but if you have NO INTENTION of Breeding both males & females should be "Fixed" to eliminate marking, but it's still something that you have to "Train" him not to do! He is so much more lovable & affectionate, and he always wants to please you, where as both females are more independent and not as clingy, more aloof and stuck-up? It took me 2 1/2 yrs. to House
Break Abigail, and Tiffany is a year old and still has accidents!
Even though he is a male I still dress him in "Aloha Shirts", sweatsuits, cowboy outfits etc. he even wears a topnot w/a masculine bow!
Overall a male is better than a female and in my opinion males bond to women more, and females tend to bond with men?
Sorry this is such a long posts, I hope this helps at all? Good Luck in deciding

I love, love, love my little boy and in fact have only had boy dogs in my life! My boy is neutured, so he never started the marking behavior in the house (that I've been able to detect anyway! He does mark the entire neighborhood outside, though, when he goes on walks, raising his little stubby leg! He has been a challenge to housebreak (he's piddle pad trained), but he has never peed on my furniture or anything. He's all boy and just adorable.

Max is 2 1/2 yrs old and was neutered as early as he could be (I forget how old he was now)..he has never marked in the house and he doesn't use pads or anything else. I'm home all day, so I can let him out when he wants/needs to go and he never has accidents at our house or when we go anywhere else. He does mark plants and stuff when I walk him outside, but I feel very lucky that he's so good in the house. He also doesn't mark at other people's homes that have male dogs who DO mark in their house. His sister is completely the opposite (I don't own his sister), but nobody's ever taken the time to properly train her. Max was not that difficult to housebreak either; you just have to pay attention to them and take them out frequently and then praise them when they go.
