| How old is your puppy, or is it a new litter? They are supposed to be docked at 3-4 days.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Yes, I had my pup's tails docked and their dew claws removed. I had a vet do this since I'm too squeamish to do it myself!

| I also had the vet do it for the puppies, but I would of rather kept the tails.. to me it is an unnecessary procedure. But I followed standards, which the vet stated is best. I can't wait for the day the us catches up with other countries in regards to tail docking. I had it done on the 3rd day, they cried... |

| I have to admit - I had no idea they even did this until I joined Yorkie Talk! I just thought Yorkies had short tails. If I had a litter I would not dock their tails. It just seems unnecessary to me - didn't God give them long tails for a reason? I could see if there were medical benefits to taildocking, but I don't think there is. I could be wrong though...

| In Britain a lot of us have campaigned against this awful practise for years and we now have a ban on breeders and lay people being able to dock and vets are only allowed to do it if it is medically necessary. The Kennel Club now allow undocked dogs in the ring and judges can be punished for favouring docked dogs. We are looking forward to the day when all dogs are allowed to be as nature intended. There is nothing nicer than a tail wagging in ecstasy when you walk in the door |

| What is the reason that Yorkies tails are docked? I know that Rottweilers had their tails docked because of the kind of work that they did. I wonder what the purpose in docking a small dog like a Yorkie is. I have to admit though, that I like the look. |

Maggie's tail was docked and dew claws removed at 3 days old. The dew claw removal, makes a difference. The tail, don't know. It is cute when it wags though.

| I believe the tails were docked like most small terriers were to provide a handle to hold onto if you needed to pull the dog out of a burrow, we don't need to do that these days especially with pet dogs. And to aviod them being injured when they fought large rats etc so again unless you are hunting with your pet why dock ? |
