| Bad reaction to rabies vaccine Jack got his rabies vaccine today around 5:30 pm and has since vomited 4 times and is extremely swollen and red at the injection site. I called the office back when he had threw up the 3rd time and they said give him 1/4 tsp of Benadryl and keep a close eye on him and call the emergency vet if we had anymore problems. He has since vomited once more and I picked him up and he started yelping and I noticed that he is very swollen at the injection site (his shoulder). Should I bring him to the emergency vet? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would just to be safe. If he was just swollen at the injection site Iwould maybe wait but since he is vomiting so much he may get dehydrated. Good luck and keep us posted, I hope he feels better soon.

| How is he now? Are you going to emergency? Ellie collapsed and went into shock after her last vaccines. Just be thankful it's not that bad.

| Poor puppy. Maybe the doctor hit a nerve/tore something in the shoulder while he was doing the shot? Hopefully your baby will fight off the reaction!!! Good luck! |

| I gave him some Benadryl and now he's just sleeping. I'm going to wake him in a little while to see if he will drink some more water. Hopefully he will be better because I have a midterm tomorrow and I can't study because I'm so worried! |

| I called the emergency vet just to ease my nerves and asked if they thought I should bring him in. I told them the symptoms and they said as long as he had some water and his gums were pink and he wasn't acting like he was in shock just keep giving the benadryl because that's all they would tell me if I brought him in. Hopefully he will feel better in the morning. Poor baby. Thanks so much for everyone's advice |

| My dex had a reaction to the rabies vac about 20 mins after I got him home from the vet. His eyes swelled shut and he broke out in hives all over his little body. He was rubbing all over the carpet to scratch himself ... poor little guy! I gave him 2mls of childrens benedryl and didnt sleep all night but after about 3 hours he was fine. Make sure you tell your vet that this happened, they will put it in his record and next time he needs shots they will give him a shot of benedryl orally before they do the shot so this won't happen again. The yelping just tells you hes sore, my dex is the same way, he wants to be held and coddled after his shots but he yelps like a maniac when I touch him. He is just sore.... My vet gives him a pain meds orally when he gives him his shots so it won't be so sore for him.

| He seems to be doing much better today, moping around but eating and drinking. Also, last night at about 3 am I was up studying and he woke up after sleeping for about an hour, jumped off the couch and stole my baked potato from the coffee table! I couldn't even be mad because I was just so happy he seemed to be feeling better. Thanks so much everyone for your concern! |

| Hope your baby is all better ! Apollo just had his too, this what i do , never take them in on a Friday or late afternoons for shots, and allways try to get a morning appointment, this way if something happens i can take them back to vet instead of ER.
