| Concerned about my Yorkie Hi to all, this is my first post and i had no idea such a forum existed until i had to do an emergency search. This sounds very bad and will probably give the wrong first impression but i am going to throw it out there anyway. my yorkie is about one and a half years old and he swallowed a condom yesterday. yes that is right, he went through the trash and pulled it out and swallowed it. now, i didn't think that this was so because i didn't think he was that stupid and i didn't think he would be able to get it down his throat. and then i figured that if he did swallow it that he would never be able to pass it. well i was wrong on both accounts. he passed it today when i was out walking him. he bent over to do number two and it was taking him a rather long time. when i walked over to check it out, i realized he had only gone a little for the amount of time that he was squeezing it out. so then he bent over again, and sure enough there it was on the sidewalk! but he continued to try to do number two to no avail. the question here is, is he alright? should i be worried? my real worry is, he really isn't my yorkie, he is my aunt's and i don't really want to take him to a vet. i am just dogsitting for her while she tries to sell her house. i am not sure how i would explain this to her. if he is alright, i don't think i will try to. thanks for your input, don't bash me too badly please. |

| I think he's ok. I mean, he was able to poop out and if he doesnt seem to be acting wierd or anything, I think he'll be fine. If you want, just call a vet and ask them. Tell them what you told us and someone should be able to tell you whether or not you should bring it in for a check up.

| Im not one to post negative comments, but it seems to me that you are not the appropriate person to pet sit. The fact that you are planning on keeping this from her shows what a insenstive person you are. People make mistakes, but you need to fess up to it. Something could be seriously wrong with her baby, and you dont care enough to even take the poor thing to the vet?????? This dog was left in YOUR care. That means you are to watch out for him/her and keep the dog safe from harm. Instead you are inflicting it. The puppy getting the condom was an accident, but you not having her checked to see if she is ok, isn't! This is commpletely unacceptable, and irresponsible! im done with you... Heather...........OUT!

| Wow, that is about as irresponsible as irresponsible gets. The dogs owner needs to be told. And that is all that I have to say to you. |

| I think it was irresponsible for you to leave a condom sitting in the trash. Nonetheless, maybe you can learn a lesson from this. Flush it, it's more sanitary! By the way you said it, it doesn't seem like you care much for the dog simply because it isn't yours. But you made a mistake and you have to fix it. Even if the dog isn't yours doesn't mean that you can shrug it off. There is a lot of bacteria, lubricant and things that are potentially hazardous to a dog. Regardless of whether he pooped it out or not, I think you should take him to the vet and pay for it. And if you cannot do that, atleast tell your Aunt. She deserves to know. It's just an accident. Or are you afraid to tell her it was a condom that he swallowed? Whatever it is, taking him to the vet and telling your aunt is the RIGHT thing to do..but ultimately it's up to you if you want to do the right thing or not. |
