| My Friends First Yorkie at 4 weeks. Need Advice. The breeder hesitated to sell the yorkie since he was only 4 weeks, but he was sold anyways for $390. Since he's so small at 4 weeks, he could barely walk. And he doesn't know how to drink from the bowl nor eat so I have to hand feed him. How should I water feed him? And should I give him any mllk or baby formula to help since he's so young? I have nutrical to give him twice a day to help his sugar level.... Please give advice. |

| I'm sorry but he is way too young to be separated from his mom and brothers and sisters. I don't think he can eat food yet, he needs mommy's milk.... I'm sure someone will have good advise but I have no idea what to do with such a young puppy... |

| This is crazy! 4 weeks old - OMG - this breeder is insane. I don't mean to be rude to you, but this is pretty serious. Please post this in the breeder section - this thread needs to be read by experienced breeders ASAP. They will help you, but it might be a little rough. Best of Luck! |

| Wow...that breeder sounds like a horrible person. I'm pretty sure that's illegal! The puppy still needs puppy milk at that age, I think...Hopefully an experienced breeder can chime in here to help.

| You should take the puppy back to the breeder and tell them to keep it a few more weeks it is way to young to be away from its mommy. I just found out that some puppys were sold at a flee market in Ohio this week at age 4 weeks and sold for 900.00 each , well a lady bought one and 2 days later it died. they are way to young. what is wrong with these breeders. |

| Goodness, really.... my heart! I would suggest she buys a puppy bottle, puppy formula, to feed the baby, let her buy a GOOD brand of puppy kibble, and mix it with the puppy formula, let it get soft, and hand feed him. Introduce water slowly by wetting your finger, and let him suckle it up. Have nutrical at hand, and make sure he gets all hes meals, and puts on weight! Phone, or go to the vet, and get some advice from him too! All the best to you, your friend, and this teeny tiny baby. Do me a huge favor, and ask her to keep him warm, give him a big stuffed animal to cuddle up to, along with LOTS, and LOTS of TLC!!!! |

| wow, is it really that difficult to keep the puppies until they are weaned??? I really dont understand! That "breeder" needs to be turned in, JMO. Hope the puppy makes it, try bottle feeding and if that doesnt work maybe tube feeding? The puppy is def too young to be away from its mom. |

| I'm going to start by assuming that for some reason, all of the VERY GOOD ADVICE about getting this pup back with its mother can't be followed. If that is the case it's very sad, because as already pointed out this baby is in desparate need of its mother and siblings. That being said, I have in the past successfully gotten very young mammals (a puppy once and a raccoon once) past this age. The post regarding supplies, foods, etc. is right on target. The only things that I would add would be (1) to get a syringe from the vet and use it to slowly squirt water, nutrical, etc. into the pup's mouth if they show any reluctance to lick or suckle food presented in other ways and (2) make sure someone's available to feed the puppy OFTEN. Every time it wakes up, it will almost certainly be hungry - as well as often after it is awake. |

| Four weeks old is just too young. I don't think that that puppy can be left alone at all. It will have to be bottle fed (or maybe tube fed). It needs to be kept warm too.

| Experienced Breeders: Is it safe to assume that this 4 week old puppy is the same as a new born baby - literally? If that's the case, this puppy needs constant round the clock care, warm, food, water and nutrients. I am very fearful for its life. Can you try to bring it back to the breeder for a few more weeks? |

| yorkies wow...that is so young...i am a breeder and have 9 babies here that age and could not imagine taking them from their mother this soon....there must be a reason you have the baby this soon....if not that breeder does not need to be breeding anymore...the soonest i have ever let a baby go is 8 weeks and that was a bigger yorkie that was eating excellent on his own and vet okayed for him to go. you need to get formula and bottle feed that baby for at least 2 more weeks and then try some soft food....good luck and be sure you feed every 3-4 hours...like newborn baby...hope all goes well tricia

I am not a breeder, but have helped a friend. In my opinion, a 4 week old, is the same as a prem baby, you have to be there at all times, and no way can you go out for a few hours, and assume the pup will be ok!! This puppy, needs watching 24/7! | |
