| New here - looking for recommendation I'm new to this site and am soooo glad that I found such a wonderful forum with so much information and friendly members. I've been fascinated with yorkies for some time and have recently decided to begin a breeder search. Can anyone recommend a reputable breeder with whom they have first hand knowledge? |

| Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk! There is lots of great info on here and everyone loves to help so we just need to know where you are from and what you are looking for if you know. I cannot tell you how smart you are to do your research and take the time to find your puppy without making an impulse buy as a lot of us did with our firts yorkie. Mostly you want a breeder who asks you more questions than you ask them and who truly cares about the puppies. It is okay if she is making money but that should not be his/her only objective. What area of the country are you in as it is always best to try to find a puppy locally if possible. |

| I am from GA but I was considering purchasing online and having the pup shipped to me. I've never done this before so I am not sure if its a good idea or not. |

| Shipping is not inherently bad. I had my last puppy shipped to me in California from Texas and she did great. The breeders make sure they ride in the cabin, not cargo and they put them on a direct flight and they wait until they are at least 12 weeks for a typical size yorkie and 16 weeks or 2 lbs for a smaller yorkie. Go to Breeders.net and type in your zip code as a starting point. There are some great breeders here on Yorkie Talk and they can probably give you their contact info. You can also go to puppyfind.net but you need to be careful and ask the right questions. Ask to see pictures of the mother and the father and the pedigres even if you are not intending to breed or show. Ask to speak to their vet. Ask if the parents have any genetic defects or other health issues. They should not let the puppy go until 12 weeks to insure proper socialization. Ask about their health guarantee. 1 year against genetic defects is good, 2 is better. I would use a "puppy escrow" service if you do not intend to go pick the puppy up yourself. I would recommend against sending money any other way. There are a lot of scam artists out there and it is easy to be taken advantage of on both sides. That will get you started and others will mention things that I didn't. Ask us a lot of questions. We all learn from everyone's answers. |

| Internet Heartbreak Welcome to YT!! I personally do NOT recommend purchasing a puppy online. Take it from someone who has had their heart broken. I found the puppy of my dreams online last month and he passed away before he even made it home to me...I was devastated. Fortunately, I took the advice of many YTers and decided to look for a local breeder. I found the most wonderful couple who have the most beautiful Yorkies. I visited their home and had the opportunity to ask 101 questions, all the while while playing with the puppies, their parents, and several other Yorkies that were in the home. My Piper Cub was able to "pick" me because I was able to visit with him in person. I was also able to see that he was a happy, healthy baby boy, which, after losing my "internet" baby Maxx, meant the world to me. Whatever you decide to do I wish you luck in finding your little furbaby

| Yes, you should find a breeder locally. You should go see where they live(the pups), see the parents if at all possible and have a nice looong chat with the breeders. If you can't see the parents then you probably don't want to buy there. But do spend time with the pups. Don't choose one too shy or one to rambunctious. A shy pup will hide and a rambunctious one will be head strong. If you want either of these types be prepared to have your work cut out for you. I know lots of people buy their pups before they are even born or a few days old. I myself prefer to wait until they are at least 5 weeks old before deciding to get one. In fact I prefer to wait until they are 8 weeks old. Less chance of them dying and more training by mom, dad and siblings. |

| I went to my breeder's house 99 % sure I wanted a certain puppy and ended up picking the other one. Of course the puppy I picked was cuter - from pictures alone I liked the other one - but also their personalities were day and night. I realized Gus was the puppy for me and would have never known it if I hadn't gone there to see for myself. There are many reasons why I think it is better to find a local breeder - meeting the owner, seeing the parents, seeing the living conditions but the best is being able to pick your puppy. I was able to take pictures and video. I'll never forget that day...it was wonderful.

| I would definitely suggest finding a local breeder or one that is at least within driving distance. When I went to pick out my baby, I already had an idea of what I wanted. I found the pup that fit my "profile".......and Rocky found me! Rocky was not exactly what I was looking for, but I was what HE was looking for! And in just a few seconds, I fell in love with him! The pup that was my first choice quickly fell to last place once I met Rocky! Rocky was so sweet and loving! He wanted to be held, but didn't whine when I put him down. Instead, he sat patiently by me while I took the other babies for a "test drive". When I had checked all of them out, (we had the pick of the litter) he looked up at me and his eyes said, "Mom, can we go home now?" Needless to say, I scooped him up and knew that he was my baby. Then I had to wait for what seemed like years for him to be old enough to come home. The moral of the story is: We think we can pick out our baby, but they can pick us, too! Rocky picked ME! I am the lucky one! That is why I think it is better to have a local breeder. Whichever you choose, I wish you the best of luck! Your baby will bring you tons of joy! |

| I found my baby on YT I found my baby Rascal here on YT. "R4sons" is a breeder in MO her name is Heather. Since I lived in Kansas she was willing to meet me half way in kansas city. I talked with her everday either on the phone or by email before I got my baby. She showed me pictures of my baby's mom, and the sisters. She told me all about Rascal and his parents. I fell in love with him the minute I saw him. I still keep in touch with her, she sends me pictures of his family and helps me with any questions I have about taking care of Rascal. She is a wonderful breeder, she worked with the puppies on potty training before we got him. He is practicly potty trained to go outside. We only have a couple of accidents in the house. That is something you most definitly want to ask the breeder. Ask them if they have already been working with the pups on potty training if so then ask what their method of training is so you can keep it up when you get your baby home. Helps with the stress of potty training. Good luck on finding your baby. |

| Try the YTCA website, there is also a breeder recommendation on the Shooter's Playhouse web. When I was looking, I recall several in the Atlanta area. I also respect Miracle Yorkies in N.C. but Marsha has a year long waiting list. You might find sensitivity in saying teacup, many find that is not true but is used by puppy mills, etc. just so you know. I got fussed at by using that term because I wanted a small, tiny, girl. I learned my lesson. |

| I got my Coco from a breeder on YTCA (Yorkshire Terrier Club of America). The breeders have to go by ethical standards and the pups are healthy and usually come with health guarantees. The breeders also ask you a lot of questions which is always a good sign because it means they are reputable breeders that care.I would recommend them. But I purchased Coco through phone and internet and she is perfect! She flew 6 hours to get to me and she did great. So I would say be cautious but don't rule it out.

| Ya know, alot of members here have pups. (I mean raise pups) If you are not in a super big hurry, then stick around and get to know everyone and a pup will present its self to you. Unless of course you find a good breeder close by. If I ever get another pup, I will absolutely check with all breeders here first. You can't beat YT members for loving and spoiling babies!!!!!

| We got our pups from Jeff Dane at www.yorkiepup.com. He is just a two hour drive from us, so we were able to see his facility and pick our babies. He does ship and I would highly recommend him. His entire family, wife, daughter and son raise pups and they have about 100 of their own yorkies, all kept beautifully. It was a great experience! I still go back and check his website all the time, he gives lots of good information, and it reminds me of when we were there picking our precious angels, over a year ago.

| If I were you, I would find a local breeder. I am too scared to have a puppy or dog shipped to me! I am worried something will happen to them. I did some research on puppysites.com and found many yorkie breeders in Georgia. Maybe one of them is located near you! I am not listing all of them here, just a few of them. Georgia Avalon Rock Yorkies Brandon's Toy Breeds - Beautiful Yorkshire Terriers raised in our home. All puppies are vet checked and vaccinated prior to leaving home. Cat's Dogs of Middle Georgia Yorkies Lorrain's Yorkies Rod & Martha's Yorkies - Rod and Martha's gorgeous AKC yorkshire terriers! (No puppies available right now) TyAva Yorkies - Show Breeder of Quality Yorkies in Georgia Yorkshire Terriers (Yorkie Paws) - Lap warmers to fill your heart and home with Love. There are several more on the list. I didn't list any kennels here or any places that breed mixes. If you would like to look at the other sites listed, go to this website: http://www.puppysites.com/breederByL...eterrier.shtml and scroll down to Georgia. I hope you find your baby soon! | No matter what you decide, if you end up getting the puppy shipped to you, PLEASE MAKE SURE HE OR SHE IS AT LEAST 3 MONTHS OLD! My baby was only 9 weeks when she came home and these past two weeks have been sleepless trying to keep her healthy from the stress. |
