| Thinking about getting a sister for Aria...need some advice please =) Hi All, I was hoping you could give me some advice. I tried to do a search on here for some info but couldn't find anything...maybe I don't know where to look?!?!? Aria is 2.5 years old and wasn't socialized with dogs too much due to some illnesses her first few months with us. Now she is very shy around dogs and doesn't seem to take too much interest in them after she initially meets them. Has anyone had a similiar situation and gotten a second pup? How did the older dog react? Are they close now? I guess my biggest concern is the possibilty of Aria getting depressed or something like that if we get a new pup. She's been very spoiled and has always had mommy and daddy's attention all to herself. Any suggestions on what I can do to *prepare* her for a sister or get her used to other dogs? Or should I just forget the idea altogether? There is a pup I am really interested in and we are meeting her and the breeder on Sunday. I am really nervous! I would die if they didn't get along and they wouldn't meet until we bring her home! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

| I have exactly the same situation as yours. My boy, Kimchee, just passed his 2nd birthday last week. He doesn't show any interest in playing with other dogs, but he likes some (not all) of our friends with all his heart. We are planning to get a Yorkie girl so they can play together. I am also worry if they will get along. I think I will first pick a pup that is very mild like Kimchee, so that the new pup will not be too bossy than Kimchee. Then to watch them closely when they interact to make sure they get along. I am also thinking of taking Kimchee to meet the new pup at the breeder place before it is ready to go home with us so that they will know each other in advance. I also learned that we should introduce them outside of home, such as a park, so that the first dog will not feel intruded. Please update us when you have your new pup in. Good luck! |

| I think it would most likely be a great benefit for your girl to have another dog around. Often living with another dog will bring them out of their shell and make them more confident with dogs. I say go for it, introduce them carefully at first and give Aria and the puppy some time alone with you so that you still have that 1 to 1 bond. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I think it would be great. I had a 8 year old pom when I got Cali because I missed having a Yorkie so much. I never had 2 dogs at the same time before. Maya was fine with bringing Cali in. Then I decided Cali needed a friend closer in age and got Pixie. Pixie was 13 months old when I got her from the Breeder and had been use to being in a indoor run with 2 other Yorkies. When I brought her home she was a pistol, she loves my pom, follows her around looks out for her etc. she lays by her all the time. Cali is laid back so Pixie jumps on her , play fights and loves to fight over the same toy. I am so glad I got all of them. It is so neet to see how they interact with each other. Cali was a little jealous at first but with extra loveing it all worked out, I will always have at least 2 at a time. They love the company.

| It always takes a little time for a new dog and an established dog to figure out their rolls in the household. A lot of supervision is required. Make sure you make a big fuss over the older one before you fuss over the new one to cut down on the jealousy.

I was hoping to bring Aria there too but for safety and health reasons this breeder does not allow other dogs to come into her home. I totally understand. This just means Aria wouldn't meet her until we brought her home. I REALLY do want this little girl too. I think I am going to go meet her and see what kind of temperament she has before making a decision. Thanks for all your comments.
