| 7 month old - not trained [F]I have a 7 month old baby boy named Kai. and he is my whooollleeee life. BUT he is really bad. if you tell him no he barks. if you spank his bottom. he bites. if you put him in his kennel;crate he yelps and yelps and yelps. finally. if you take him outside (even if you stay out there 30 minutes) he wont go. as soon as you let him back in he goes in and relieves himself. then if you try to get him to go outside he lays down and wont budge the slightest bit.. If i pick him up to take him outside he thinks he is off the hook and he just plays.. also he has a puppy pad in clear view and he refuses to go on it.. what do i do??!?!?!? UGHHH i love him soooo much but wow he is truly the extreme of a stubborn pup. [/FONT]

| Well I certainly wouldn't "spank" him. Have you tried patience and understanding? He is still a puppy and a small dog. Start from scratch if you have to and be gentle and kind. Take him out after he wakes and after he eats and soon he will get the right idea...tons of praise for things done right. Keep him on a leash outside until he's done his business than release him to play. Last edited by MorkieAZ; 09-18-2007 at 01:20 PM. Reason: forgot something |

| Thank you so much. Yes i definitely tried the gentle thing and he just didn't get it. I am going to try the leash idea. What do you mean start over. like a whole new area and everything. He stays in the kennel if I am not home and if i am he only gets to go in the kitchen/living room/dining area (its combined) Because i had heard that a small space helps make it easier to train we bought a puppy play pen. Soon he learned to climb out. so I bought a taller baby gate.. yep he climbs out of that too. lol he is such a mess.. but gosh i love that little guy!

| I don't really think he is that much of a mess. My Yorkie is 6 and she has peed in the house for the last two days because she obviously didn't feel like doing it outside. Ellie snaps if she gets upset, protects her food, barks uncontrollably when someone is at the door, bites and barks at the vacuum, marks her territory, pulls on the leash, snaps at other dogs, yelps when left alone... I am sure I am missing a few. We are working on her issues but it takes time. Have you tried belly bands for the urinating when you are home?

| Well my dear... Pups are like children - and a good spanking never hurt anyone! If Meka does a BIG no,no... she does get a tap on the bottom. Do what works for you! Potty Training is just a long process with Yorkies... and it requires patience and being consistant. I leave Meka in my washroom/kitchen during the day. She has a puppy pad near and a limited about of water. I had to limit it, because I use to let her graze freely and I'd come home to pee/poo everywhere... So she's feed in the AM and then again when I get home. After she eats in the evening, I make her sit in her bed in my room. I wait about 30 min. and then tell her to "potty on her pad" and she's actually getting the concept to run downstairs to her pad (of course w/ me). But, all in all, its just a slow process and it aint easy... Be sure to keep using key words CONSISTANTLY. The fact that he bites back and barks when you tell him NO is concerning... Sounds like he thinks hes the leader of the pack and your suppose to be. Youve gotta show your authority - just like with kids... Or they will run all over you and your home. Hope this helps.

| Try to focus and praise your Yorkie when he does right and give a treat in between now and then and try to ignore or just say No when he does wrong but don't go further than that as in spanking, yelling etc. In time, hopefully when he sees that he gets so much more attention and praises when he does right and being ignored when he does wrong he will learn to behave the way you want him to. You'll need to spend more time with him just to catch him do the right things though.

| They really are stubborn when it comes to potty training. Just be persistent, and patient.

| EllieMae - I have never heard of belly bands what are those? - well i am trying the whole "dont raise your voice thing.." and to my suprise he seems to respond to it. I have him on a schedule. at 5:45 am he gets to come out of his bed and go outside.(not that he goes. lol) i bring him in and he eats. then at 7 am he goes out one more time before i leave for work. I work about 5 minutes from my house so i always come home for lunch. he goes out then. does not get to eat but i play with him for a while. then back to his crate. i get home at 5 he gets to go outside for a walk (atleast 15 min.) and then inside eat. after 25 min. outside then he comes in we watch the news and play. then about 9 he goes outside again and at 10 its bed time. I have always done this. and if he doesn't go while he is outside i just bring him in assuming he doesn't need to.. well i must have a magical door because as soon as he comes in he goes and gets a drink of water and goes right then.. SOO frustrating. I am trying something new. When i take him out is in on a leash. if he doesn't go i put him in his crate set the timer for 30 min (so i don't forget) and take him out again. he barks and yelps and tries to bite his way out but i just let him. i dont yell... I just started this today but i will let yall know how it works, thank yall so much. -kan

| Belly bands are something that you wrap around males (kind of like a diaper) to stop them from peeing all over. Maybe someone here can give you a better definition. I have a girl.
