| Yokie in Public Areas Hello everyone! Does anyone else like to take their dogs out with them to public areas like the mall? Or is it just me, I can't help but want to take my puppy where ever I go. But I guess I don’t really know the “rules” about taking your dog with you in public areas. I just don't want to be breaking any kind of laws. Could someone fill me in? Thanks a bunch! |

| The obvious is pet stores, a majority of food establishments with outdoor seating, the pricey department stores (sak's, neiman marcus, bloomingdale's, etc.), some transit systems. As long as your dog is in a carrier and not barking/growling at people, you should be ok. It really depends on the establishments if they are pet friendly, and or conflicts with health code, but don't be insulted if they ask you to leave because of your pet unless they are utterly rude about it. |

| I would love to take Toto with me but he gets car sick. After a little trip in the car, he would have to join the Dirty Fur Kids Club!

| The laws and rules differ depending on the establishment and where you live. If you want to take your dog, do so, just don't be upset if you are asked to leave. Or better yet, call first and ask. I love my dogs...I love most dogs, but I have to say, if I was a business owner, I would not allow them in, service dogs being the exception. I personally don't have a problem with other's bringing them out in public, but I can certainly understand why some people would. |

Izzy loves her carrier and we have been to Target, Lowes, all the garden centers and even furniture showrooms. She is quiet in her carrier and no one even knows she's in there - they all think I am carrying a purse. Once they realize she's in there it's, "Ahhh, can we see her?" Or, "Look, there's a puppy in that ladies' purse."; or the ultimate when they see me "talking" to my bag they just think I'm nuts....lol. Also as mentioned if it's outdoor seating for a restaurant you are welcome with your Yorkie.

| I take Deiter with me all the time. I have a purse that he goes in, and you don't even know he is in there.

I loved your comment on "talking to your bag" - that's me too. That, and the baby rock without the baby.

YT Addict | Teddy is too much of a yapper to be put in any purse or carrier. He was great when he was a puppy, however. Although, I do bring him along in any kind of hair stores, or places to buy shampoo and things. I was in safeway the other day, and one woman had a small chihuaha in her arms and was carrying him around the whole store. Now, I want to know if i can bring in my Teddy-Wed. My sister works at Raleighs, and she tells me people bring their yorkies in that store all the time. So I might start bringing him there. I've brought him to all the pet stores, and of course the bank.

| A fun story from my daughter in Chicago. She lives a block off Michigan Avenue and had walked over to the Walgreens on Michigan. As she was walking in, she met a woman with two yorkies who was leaving the store. Not completely odd in Chicago, BUT these two yorkies were coming out of the store WALKING OFF LEASH, one at each heel. The woman took off walking down Michigan Avenue, with two off leash yorkies walking along side her. While I'd be too afraid to do that no matter how well they were trained (not to mention I don't even think it's all that smart), it was nonetheless VERY impressive!!

| I take Turbo to the dog friendly outdoor malls. Even where I live, being such a huge dog loving place, there are places they can not go into. Any place with food is a huge no no. Same for a lot of stores. I wish I knew more about the states, but, I personally hate the thought of ppl bringing their dog into a place of business that contains any type of food, in a carrier or not.
