New Yorkie Owner Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have a Yorkie puppy. Her name is Korki and she is 13 weeks old and 1.1 lbs. She's quite the item. Very smart and spoiled rotten. I give her Honey Nut Cheerios for treats and she can sit and sit/up pretty for one of these treasures. We already had a bout with hypoglycemia. One morning she was just limp and unable to move. I jumped online and got some great information about how to bring her around. The final step was a bit of honey rubbed on the top of her mouth and she got up. I took the whole day off just to keep an eye on her. She had food available at all times so I'm not sure why this happens. I have to say I never expected to get such a wonderful addition to the family. I'll be lurking here often just to learn more about this breed. Last edited by kdp; 09-13-2007 at 10:01 AM.

Welcome!! I am a newbie too and my baby was 1 lb when I got her. Yumi also had an episode with hypoglycemia. This unfortunately can be common in yorkies, especially when young. They are a lively breed and can use a lot of energy playing for small stints, especially if outside in warm conditions. Purchase some Nutrical for puppies this helps with maintaining a healthy dose of vitamins daily. Also make sure your cutie-pie Korki gets water and eats well. If her appetite slacks, give her the Nutrical as a supplement or things like honey or syrup. Never let her go more than 6-8 hours without eating or replenishing after a good does of playtime. Right now at 1lb she simply can't make up the difference. If this reoccurs one too many times, I would have her checked by your vet for any type of bacteria infection that can wipe out her system even more. But welcome again, I have found this forum to be an excellent source of information and a good way to stay in touch with fellow yorkie lovers

WOW Impressive Thank you so much for the fantastic welcome. I will take more pictures and post them. She is just so comical. Not much of a lover right now. She is just soo busy. I have her in a playpen (new) with a cat house. She sites in it and watches everything that goes on. She cant waite to get out and play. I have a ferret leash to keep her calm. Once I put it on her she calms right down and doesn't pull on it. She even walks right next to me. What a character...it's just mind boggleing. She has had regular visits to the Vet for shots and exams. So far I think I know more about her tiny breed than the Vet. That's a bit scary but his staff really loves Korki. She is their smallest patient. It is too funny to see her on that big scale with her red ferret harness on. She looks up like "OK NOW WHAT?" Thanks again for your responses and I'll post pictures soon.
