Donating YT 11K Club Member | I love kids but.. they drive me crazy when i walk my dogs!! I just came back from the park with the midgets and my mom. As soon as we get there, cause they love the grass, the kids make a group around us. Poor little Sophie does not like kids and she runs away from them. I'm thinking where are these kids moms?? You've got like two 2 yr olds, 5 yr olds, 7 yr olds all trying to pet Teddy, Sophia and London! It was so frustrating and as much as you tell them "please don't, just pet them, they are scared of you" they still try to pick them up. Then i have this guy with his mean dog come near us and he just won't go away. I have seen him before several times, his dog does not like small dogs and he always growls at mine and yet he still comes near me It is really annoying. He really hypes up Sophia that likes to bark at bigger dogs and London that LOVES all dogs and is just trying her best to get near him and play. ay ay ay ! But i really LOVE kids! It's just when their parents do not pay attention at what they are doing, and let them run around the whole park unsupervised it really makes no sense.

| When it's just one or 2 kids I don't mind, but I get the neighborhood kids that come running when they see us. It's gotten to the point where I say watch out, he'll bite you. Or becareful, she'll nick your finger and they tend to ease up some. It can be a bit nerve wracking.

Yes it was really nerve wrecking! I have even told kids that they bite just to get them not to try and pet them. Sometimes they don't even care and still try. I don't mind either if it's one or 2 and i usually let them pet them but Sophia is really scared of them, i mean she was even trying to hide under my skirt! So i tell them to back away from her 'cause i really don't want her being scared. Teddy and London really don't mind kids, they let anyone pet them so i usually let them gently but not Sophie.

| I don't like anyone big or little touching my babies. I just pick them up and walk away hoping they'll go away.

Donating YT 11K Club Member | Exactly! They follow me too! And i REALLY don't like to be mean. My mom thought i was today though cause i was walking Teddy and she was on the ground with the girls and this little girl was picking up London and she was falling out of her hands so when i turned around and saw i got kinda mad and kinda yelled Also Sophia was running around my mom trying to get away from the kids and i almost lost it! I had to go save them

| I'm sure you saw my thread a couple weeks ago about kids driving me crazy when I took Lacy shopping with me at the scrub store... So I made it obvious in that thread how I feel about parents not supervising their children and making them behave! It's so ANNOYING!!!!!!

| The best thing would be to avoid parks where kids play. Find a park that is quiet with no kids. I don't mind people wanting to pet Diesel. I think it is good actually. It help to socialize them. I simply hold Diesel while they rub him. Then I say enough and and they go play. If your Yorkies don't like kids then I would stay away from them. It is actually a safety issue for both parties.

| My Roxy hasnt been with me for that long and I also get mad with the big dogs. Esp the owners who walk them off the leash or even on the leash come up and say "are you going to let her socialize with other dogs?" ok lady you have a pit bull and you want me to let your dog socialize with my lil 3lb dog. How do I know she will not bite her face off. Another thing that pissed me off last weekend was when we went to Petco to return something. I didnt know it was vac day for the people who dont take their dogs to the reg vet. Roxy and I were outside getting ready to go in after she did good girl and this lady had to labs and let her two girls under the age of 12 run with them to the door on leashes. Roxy on one as well. Everything was so fast that Roxy ran behind me with them trying to smell her and me picking her up. She is very playful and thinks everyone is her friend. I yelled at the kids and their mother also yelled at them. The mother then said by the way they wouldn't hurt your dog. I really dont care. You shouldnt have kids running with dog. As far as neighborhood kids. I do have the lil girls under the age of 6 that ask if Roxy can come out to play. If we re not out on the step already I tell them she is sleeping. When were out I dont let them hold her leash or hold her. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I think parents need to be responsible for their kids, I am a mother of 4 boy's and when they were younger we taught them not to approach strangers, even if they have a dog as we did not have pets because of renting. If you think about it Most Child predators use innocent puppies to get a child to come with them!! Also I feel that you should not approach a dog of ANY size without permission and we taught our boy's that too, you don't know if the dog likes kids or if they are biters!! Allot of times when we see people at the park with their dogs they let the kids know that the dog is friendly and wants a nice petting and a few kisses Like most of you have stated, it all goes back to the child being taught proper manners!! Adults can be just as bad with toughing things that are cute and tiny! My last two boy's were born 3 months early and they left the hospital at 4 lbs, I had to take them to the Peds every week for weight checks and you wouldn't belive how many mothers wanted to tough my babies!! Even the ones that had their own newborn with them wanted to see or hold my boy's You would think that they would be the ones knowing better!! |
