| Just Nuetered Today....have questions My five month old Macky was just nuetered today. He came home groggy...but that didn't last very long, in fact I'm more nervous because he's acting normal and playful and I want him to rest. The sheet given to me by my vet has so many restrictions...I'd like some advice from those of you who have been through this....It stated that he should only be outside on a leash to go to the bathroom...well, we have a fenced in yard, so the leash is so strang to him in the yard that he's not going to the bathroom...but they recommended this for 10 days?? He's completed trained to go outside..so I'm struggling with this. Also, no jumping or climbing...that too is so hard...my puppy is not crated and is used to jumping on the couch...bed...us, etc. Any advise as to how long you followed these restrictions? Oh...he has not licked or scratch his incision once! THANKS!!! |

| I never heard about the leash, I would just keep an eye on him, they just want to make sure hes not messing with his surgery spot. Running and jumping, will get REALLY hard to stop..lol. Aubrey was neutered about two weeks ago, and 3 days after, I couldn't stop him. To me, for them to heal they need to get around, but sometime I would slow Aubrey down. Good luck! |

| Coby was neutered on the same day as Aubrey. My instructions said only leash walking too. Really, Coby was 100% within a few hours of coming home. He seemed a little tender when trying to jump, but that was it. Trying to keep him from jumping was the hardest thing. Just try to keep him as subdued as you can (oh, aren't we all laughing at that!!??!!). Make sure he's not messing with his stitches. Coby never bothered them at all. Check the sutures a couple times a day to make sure they're staying closed. Don't fret too much. No dog I've ever had has had any issues with being neutered (or spayed). Just do your best at keeping him from jumping and running for several days. He'll be just fine. The worst thing is probably not being able to give him a bath. Coby got his stitches out today - bath first thing in the morning!! yeah!!

| When Trace got neutered I wasnt given any instructions except to make sure he wasnt messing with the incision. He was fine and other than being a little groggy at first, he never acted like anything even happened. I was a little alarmed the next morning when the area was swollen up and make it seem like he had bigger balls than he left with. LOL....I took him into the vet and he was fine and the swelling went down right away. I hope your guy is doing fine. |

| Deiter did just fine. They kept him over night. But when I picked him up, he was happy to see me, but he didn't really do to much for a couple of days. It was like he knew he was to take it easy. He would kind of wimper but I told him he was ok, and to stop acting like Dad, because I wasn't going to baby him either.LOL Even thou I did.

| hm, when my baby got neuter, the vet told me to watch him, no jumping, no running up and down the stairs, and limit his activity for 2 days or so. he did just fine, when he came home, he didnt want to do nothing but lay in his bed. |

| Thanks! Thanks everyone for your advice and support! Macky was wired last night! He usually doses alot...but last night he wouldn't settle down until about 11:00....then up at 5:00 this morning. He definately is acting like himself...but I'm desperately trying to get him to rest...HUH!!! The leash is really getting to be a pain! I'll try for one more day on it, but since others have done fine without that instruction, especially ten days of it, I won't worry too much about it. One more question...did you use the pain medication? The doctor gave me 3 days worth and I was to start this morning...Macky doesn't appear to be in pain...slept through the night..but I figured I should just in case. Does anyone remember if that meds make them sleepy? |

| I'd just let him do his thing in the yard, as long as you keep an eye on him. If he doesn't seem like he's in pain I wouldn't give the pain medicine. It would probably make him drowsy.

| When Conner was neutered, he was back to his old self as soon as we got home!! When we came in the door, he wanted to play. I dropped him off at 8:30 in the morning and was able to pick him up at 2:30. Conner had dissolve stitches with glue over them. He never tried to lick his suture. He was able to go outside to potty right away and had no restrictions (except I was told to feed him a little bit at a time for the first day). Good luck in the recovery.

| Rebel did really well when he was neutered. He was a little groggy when we first got home, but the next day he was wide open. The only thing I really watched for was going up and down steps and jumping. I was afraid something might come loose if he jumped. I used the pain meds the first night just to help him sleep, but after that it wasn't necessary Good luck to you and your little man!

| jACKSON WAS NEUTERED WED 9/5 Ok, I wish I could heal like them. I am so envious. My Jackson came home and looked so sleepy, he slept for a couple of hours and next thing I knew he was throwing his ball at me to play. He didn't really have a good appetite until 2:30 am. I had dropped him off at 9am and they called at 12:44...(LOL, Could you tell I was waiting?) to tell me he was fine. I had him microchipped and had his 2 baby teeth removed that refuse to fall out. I wasn't told to leash him. I was told no stairs for the first night. I carried him and blocked the steps overnight. I changed vets because the first one costed twice the amount, and he wanted to keep him overnight for everything. Jackson is a flirt and loves his new female vet. She is young and pretty. I think I went through more emotions then Jackson!

| I used the meds twice. Jackson just seemed so uncomfortable towards night. He kept getting up every 5 minutes to switch positions. It did make him sleep soundly. Its been 3 days now. He is fine. Every once in a while he jumps and looks at his stitches like he might have gotten a sharp pain but I am keeping an eye on him.
