Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I Have A Stupid Question About The Heat Cycle?? On Aug 15th I noticed Daisy was really swollen in her girly region lol and so I knew she was coming into heat well through the next week she really got swollen and I started to notice blood around the 24th well I thought she was done with the bleeding but noticed tonight she is now really bleeding heavily this is the 4th week from when I noticed she was swollen.I was wondering is this normal? Should i be concerned she is bleeding for so long now? Does she still have another 2 weeks befroe the heat is done? Geeze i'm glad i'm not a dog i tell ya i feel so bad for her lol.

| Hmmm, I honesly don't know but here is what I've learned. Proestrus and Estrus are the two phases of the heat cycle that produce blood/discharge. Proestrus last from 3-14 days followed by Estrus which lasts from 2-20 days. Usually when the dog goes into estrus the discharge goes to clear or pink. So, that means that adding proestrus and estrus would make a grand total of discharge time between 5 and 34 days. So, I guess it could be normal. That being said, Ellie has never bled that long and I would call a vet and ask or at east talk to a breeder.

| How heavily is she bleeding. I never notice any blood from Ollie, she keeps herself very clean. You mght want to ask your vet. also try posting this in the breeders section. |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | thank you all for responding. Well i thought she was done bleeding but my hubby picked her up and said she is bleeding a lot so i looked at her and see a lot of deep red blood coming out so i put he back in the playpen and i just took her out to potty again and it isn't flowing right now?

| Princess hardly shows any blood... I'm not saying theres something wrong but it wouldn't hurt to get her checked out just in case... It's probably like humans in that the amount of blood varies depending on the woman! |

No Longer a Member | Chloe's first heat (may) seemed to last forever! I know the whole thing took longer than the "textbooks" say. However, there wasn't a whole lot of blood. There was definitely enough to warrant her wearing panties and a pad, but it was still a pretty slow ooze. |

| I am not sure what could be wrong but they may be concerned about Pyometra, especially if the discharge stopped and then started again. Since this is her first heat it is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY UNLIKELY (don't want to scare you) I would say. I don't know what else it could be but it is good that they are being safe.

| It sounds pretty normal to me. I have bred my female after the bleeding stopped and have had her bleed a week later. Boy did this make me doubt myself. It has happened more than once and she is perfectly normal and healthy and produced pups (they won't breed willingly if the timing isn't right). Since you aren't familiar, a trip to the vet will make you feel better. You can also go online and research the estrus and pro estrus to get more familair with it. Believe me, this was not a stupid question . |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | The vet called me back and said he was not too concerned he said to call him back in a week if she hasn't stopped bleeding. He said all females are different and the stages can last anywhere from 4-14 days. So i feel a little better lol. Thanks everyone!
