| A Quick Question for Those Who Volunteer at the Shelter Just a quick question for those who volunteered at the shelter. Are you allowed to bring your own dog while you volunteer? Reason being I plan to volunteer for at least 5 hours a day and few days a week and I do not want to leave my own dog at home for such a long time but I would really like to do something for the homeless dogs. I have think about fostering but I am not able to do so right now.

| That would be very cool, but no, I don't think you can. I'd probably volunteer more if Wobie could come with me.

| I know this will be a tough decision for you but NO you do not want to bring your dog(s) as there is just to many diseases your dog could pick up. Plus the shelters are very scary for any dog. They can smell the fear and death. Also if you decide to do this please, please have a pair of shoes that you put on and take off at your car at the shelter. These shoes should never enter your yard or home - again so you don't bring any diseases like parvo home. I would also carry handwipes in the car to clean your hands after you have been in the shelter. It is a wonderful thing you are going to do but you do have to take precautions so you do not harm your furbabie(s) at home.

| No offense, but why would you want to? I'd be afraid my dogs would catch an upper respiratory infection or some other decision that runs rampant in shelters. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I commend your efforts as my daughter goes to a private school and community service is very inportant to their program. She is asked to do 40 hours of community service per semester for the community NOT a relative. She chose Humane Society and I couldnt be more proud! Yes take precautions like the shoes and even a change of clothes, the point behind what you are doing is comendable, afterall if you don't do it who will?? what if everyone said no??? Your a kind person!

| As long as you take the proper precautions mentioned above I think you'd be doing a great service for your community.

| one time we brought Zoe with us to look at dogs at a shelter and we were told not to bring her in so it doesn't stress out other dogs and most importantly so she doesn't catch things in there, like kennel cough. Just a thought. |

I really have to agree with Cindy here. And given her experience working with rescue, I really trust and value her opinion on this. | |

| I have volunteered many times and no, you are not allowed to bring your own pets for all the reasons mentioned above. I think that you will find that the time you get to spend with the shelter dogs will require your full attention and will truly be worth it. I commend you for wanting to volunteer |

| I think that's great that you want to volunteer at your local shelter. I volunteer at my local Humane League about 2 Saturdays or more a month. I wouldn't bring my dogs with me, I don't think we'd be allowed. But I never thought about what someone else said about not wearing the same pair of sneaker/shoes home that you wore at the shelter. OMgosh, I'm going to mention this to the volunteer coordinator at the Humane League. They should be telling ALL the volunteers this when they give them their training. I know when I get home from there, my two smell me like there is no tomorrow. Thank You so much for mentioning that fact.

| Thank you for the feedbacks. I have never never thought about the fact that my furbaby might catch disease from my shoes, thank you for the heads up! I was only thinking about him going bonkers at home while I am out. Thank you again everyone
