Yorkie Lover Donating Member | No more ants for Magic!!! Friday night, while on a walk Magic got into some ants and we think got biten several times...at first we worried very little about it, until she started acting like her paws were hurting her, so we called the vet and they told us to give her some Benadryl...we did as directed and noticed right away she wasn't acting like herself...she didn't want to eat, or really even play!!! We let her sleep the night and then this morning grew even more concerned when she still would not eat...after much coaxing, we got her to eat a few pieces but less than a hour later she threw that up...it was then that we knew we need to see the vet immediately... We took her to the emergency clinic and after a long wait it was determined that the ant bits had thrown her little system into shock...they gave her some fluids under her skin to get her hydrated again, drew some blood (which everything came back normal), gave her some anibotites, and gave her a shot to calm her stomach done....we were so scared for her!!! But in the end, she got to come home and within a few hours has finally started to get back to her old self...she will be on meds for a while but the docs think she should be okay!!! On the way home, we told Magic, no more ants and no more playing in ant beds!!! We are just to thankful that she is okay....

| UGH... Was it 'fire ants'?????? I hate those buggers.!!!!!! I lived in Texas briefly and STOOD in a fire ant hill just before leaving on a 20 hour car ride.....WOW!!!!! what an experience!!! We have started having them around our yard in S.C. and I am forever fighting those rascals!!! I hate them and follow them all over the yard. I have tried everything and NOTHING kills them...they just move! But I stay right behind them....I watch Apple and Lil Bit constantly to be sure they don't just ROLL in them or something.!! Glad she is doing better!!!!! |

| oh bless her little heart. Buckeye got a bit one time (i think). he went into the neighbors yard to potty and came out yelping. wouldn't walk on the one foot for the rest of the evening. I never could see any spot on him. he went under the chair and didnt' want me touching it. he was fine before time to go to bed tho. this was soon after we got him a few years ago. Only thing i could think of that would do that to him was the ants. they had a big hill of them. my husband had him for that walk, that should explaine it all. LOL i am glad Magic is ok. those darn things hurt me.

| It is good you got to the vet! I am so glad she is getting better. That is so scary when the babies don't get better like they should.
