| Hardwood or laminate...which is better for dogs? I have researched this but keep getting confusing information. I need to get rid of this carpet...it is so nasty. I love the idea of hardwood and know it is much better for resale value, but worry about it being scratched by my 3 dogs. Also when they have accidents, whether it is poo, pee or vomit what will that do to the hardwood...I know it will do nothing if it is found right away but what if it was left overnight, for instance? As for the laminate, I understand it is less likely to scratch but that it cant get wet either which seems weird since I know so many people that put it in their kitchen. What is your experience with laminate? Do you really think it looks like real wood? In the research I have done, there is not a huge price difference between wood and laminate...I think the estimate for my downstairs was about $500 difference. Share your experiences please. Laura |

| I'm not sure about the difference. I know that I have wood floors that are original to the house, and need refinished anyhow.. but I haven't noticed any scratches from the dogs. As far as water goes, it needs to be wiped up right away IMO. I put placemats under the dogs food and water dishes just in case anything spills and make sure to clean up accidents asap. |

| I have wood laminate. It has been wonderful! Easy to clean and no scratching!!! Was concerned t first that it would be cold in the winter(opposed to carpet). It wasn't bad at all.....I'm really happy with it.

| I have both hardwod and laminate. The hardwood does cost more and is pretty, I worry about when accidents happen that the urine might leak thru both the hardwood and laminate to the underlayment. I have had no problems with the laminate scratching and it is eay to clean, (I was told only a damp mop and vinigar water). The only other alternative would be ceramic tile with a throw rug on top which could be washed. I do know I was so happy to get rid of the carpet.

| my daughter did the hardwood floors and hers does show stratches (bad) but hers is also soft step type and she has a lab. we went for the tile floors less unkeep and wear, it is colder in the winter, but cooler in the summer. I have notice with both the hardwood and title it's hard for the dogs to get there footing on, I want to put splitbrick in the kitchen, right now our den is half carpet and half tile were the fireplace is. I think it will be a trade off with any way you go good and bad. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have laminate and really like it. Easy to maintain, doesn't scratch easy. Only problem I had was a plant blew over and water got under the pot that we didn't know about and the next day the floor in the area was warped. I took a blow dryer to it and it got better but still looks a little warped.

| I have been checking into new flooring and every place I went told me absolutely no on the hardwood floors. My vet recommended luxury vinyl because that is what they put in the office and in their home. It comes in different styles and it also comes in planks that look exactly like wood. They had some layed in all of the flooring stores and if I didnt know better I would have thought it was wood. It is a little pricey but that is what we are going with. Look up www.karndean.com. It wont be cold like ceramic tile and wont stain like hardwoood would. |

| we have a nice laminate in our new house that appears to be stone, its gorgeous... Anyways, I would just stay completely away from any kind of tile... We had such trouble with peanut and the grout... etc... If the hardwood is sealed properly then either one should be fine, personal preference... ?

| I like the laminate, because all you have to do is mop it up. Hardwood floors have to be waxed, and buffed out. They look better, but it's a lot of work.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | We just installed hardwood thorough out the house. I have lulu 99.9% housebroken. So on the very very rare occassion we get a bit of a piddle I get it right away. I would recommend the hardwood. It's a lot harder to have water or spills get up under it and honestly for a few dollars more you come out on top in the long run. You can refinish it instead of replacing and if and when you ever decided to sell your home the value it brings is a lot more. My dad put in laminate in his house and his older dog had some bladder issues towards the end of his life. Needless to say there is one area where the urine stained it and got under it. So we are going to have to remove those four boards completely for it to be ok.

| I have hardwood, pre-finished with a 20 year warrantly on the finish (thus, hopefully, no sanding, buffing, refinishing for a LONG time). I absolutely love them. I also have a naughty little boy who likes to sprinkle on them. I have had absolutely no problems at all, even after it has dried (before I find it ). However, his "puddles" are not large. I have spilled some water that went over the joints or seams, and didn't find it either right away, with no warping or anything. Of course, that is just my experience. We've had our hardwood floor for 5 years, and it looks great! I have heard wonderful things about the high end vinyl and whomever said that it looks just like hardwood, is right, at least in the store. I've not seen it in a whole house or room, but it is gorgeous in the store. I was thinking that if I ever needed to do something other than hardwood, I might consider high end vinyl. Does anyone know if the vinyl will scratch?
