| YIKES! *his ears* In our puppy class last night she taught us how to "look" at our puppies and how to train them to let us look at and touch them all over. We were "practicing" today and I noticed little scab like things in his ears (one more then another). I did a search and read that ear mites itch and smell. He doesn't have either of these problems. What could it be? Also, his ears at 12 weeks are still floppy. The breeder said that had poked up around 8 weeks, but drooped back down around 10, and are still down. Could whatever is causing these scab, cause ears to not perk. (Shhh- don't tell Keeley but we have been talking about pulling out the tape or the glue if they don't start poking up soon ). |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | IMO...I don't think that the scabs would cause his ears to not stand up. As far as the scabs themselves, I would take your baby to a vet. If it isn't mites, it could be something else.

Are you sure they are scabs? Copper got a couple of ticks in the inside flap of his ear once. They kind of look like scabs. Check closely. You may have to get your vet to help you remove them the first couple of times if that is the case...you have to make sure to get the head out. You can use a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to dab on the tick....sometimes that will make it let go. OOPS...I didn't think the first one loaded....sorry for the repeat.

He has an appointment for the vet on Thursday. Maybe I'll call the vet in the morning and explain what is going on and see if she thinks we should move it up. | |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Does he scratch his ears and could his nails be doing this ? I've heard ear mites will leave little dark spots that look like ground coffee... but if it's a brand new problem you may not see that yet....How good you saw that in class - I bet it freaked you out in class - if it is mites or ticks your vet will know for sure.... On the floppy ears - BOTH my girls ears went up and down like yo-yo's and they ended up standing on their own - We did try the tape (my hubby's idea) ...I think it TOOK three hours to put it on....Once she was all taped up - I removed it 3 hours later - Chanel looked like she was trying to pick up Satelite Stations and I just couldn't take it ...for her sake and mine - the tape came off... |
