| Spaying So Coco will need to get spayed in a couple of months. I love her vet, and she has health insurance but it doesn't cover anything with spaying. Does anyone know of any organizations that spay for a lot less, that will do a good job? I've heard that the SPCA does it for a lot less, but I wanted to get some opinions. The vet bills are just so high for spaying, that I wanted to look into some more cost effective options. Please don't think I don't want the best for Coco because I do, no matter the cost. But if I can save some money, I would like to.

| If you are looking for low cost you can try www.friendsofanimals.org they offer Spay/Neuter Certificates that will give you a considerable savings at a participating vet office. My girlfriend just used the coupon and said the spay was $10 total! If you are looking for a low cost spay/neuter clinic, you can contact your local animal shelter or SPCA and ask them for info. They usually have their animals spay/neutered at the low costs clinics so the should be able to refer you. Good luck!!

| I am doing the friends of animals since my vet accepts their certficate ..I have to pay the $65.00 for the certificate from them and then present it to my vet..check it out and see is your vet is affiliated with them..they will send you a list of vets in your area.

| So if I buy the certificate, I don't pay the vet for anything? I just pay the $75 for the certificate and that's it? how does the vet get paid for this?

| First you have to make the vet is a participant..I would call them and ask..they then get paid a discounted rate from Friends of Animals (when they turn in the certificate that you will give them)..I had 2 of my friends do it through them ...BUT there is an extra charge if she needs teeth taken out as well..the only thing covered with the certificate is the spaying/neutering...oh and I think there is a time limit.. (certificate isn't valid after a year of purchase or soemthing..so I would wait till it's like a month or 2 before )

If you go to the website and enter your zip code they will send you an email with a list of vets in your area. If there aren't any you can also call your local vets and ask them if they accept the certificate or if they know of any low cost spay/neuter programs or clinincs.

| The other day I was on a walk with my two yorkies and I met a lady who told me the story of her Missy that died at 7yrs of age from uterine cancer. She asked me if I spayed my Missy yet and I told her no but I planned on it, she urged me to do it and told me it was very important. She didnt think she had to spay her Missy because she would never be around a male dog so there wasnt a chance she'd get preg, she assumed that was the only reason. She feels so terrible for not spaying and felt its her fault her Missy is no longer here. I did an internet search and found the following info. HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPAYING AND NEUTERING Some pet owners are not aware of the advantages of spaying or neutering their pet. A spayed or neutered pet does not become fat or lazy. Their metabolism may slow down abit but all you have to do to keep that trim look is cut back a little on the food. In addition to the obvious advantage of preventing unwanted pregnancies, there are health and behavioral benefits: Unspayed Females are at risk for: Breast cancer Cystic endometrial hyperplasia and pyometra False pregnancies Mastitis (can occur during false pregnancy) Transmissible venereal sarcoma Ovarian and uterine tumors Cystic ovaries and hyperestrogenism Chronic endometritis Vaginal hyperplasia and prolapse Uterine torsion or uterine prolapse

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Our local humane society does a low cost spay/neuter clinic. You might check this out in your area and see what services they offer.
