| Question about Yorkies and heat Hi guys, I am new here. I have a question. My mil's yorkie has weird heats. She is about 3 1/2 years old and has not had but about 3 all together. Her last one lasted for about 27 days (the bleeding). My mil is concerned about her but the vet she is taking her to is telling her this is normal. She has had yorkies her whole life and has never had one do this. She is a little concerned and I wanted to try to find out more info for her. Can you tell me if this is normal and if not, any ideas to what might be wrong? The vet is not finding anything. I am not sure if they did an x-ray or ultrasound to make sure that there is nothing wrong with her uterus. They did bloodwork and told her she had thyroid trouble. Have you ever heard of a dog with thyroid trouble? lol I told her to switch vets. But any input would be very helpful and appreciated. I leave for vacation in a couple of days. Thanks in advance! |

| Hmmm I dont know.. the thyoid could be what is causing her cycle to be a bit abnormal but if shes healthy and fine then i dont think you should be worrying? i think dogs can be like ppl in that their cycles dont always happen like they should... my sis has the thyroid thing and her cycles are always messed up and sometimes last a little longer than most ppl we know... |

| some dogs go into heat once a year, others every 15 months. it is normal to have heats every 6 to 10 months. now if she is having them over 15months apart, i would say there is something wrong.

| Thank you Lisatodd and Catrina. Is it also normal for them to bleed for 27 days? I think that is what concerned her the most. Thanks again. |
