| vet procedures Hi guys.... Took my little darling to the vet yesterday to check out her incontinence prob and luckily she is ok with just a UTI. While we were there he said he was going to take some urine from her (I asked if he wanted me to bring some in the next day but he said no). He also said he was going to put her on the sonogram. I myself had a sonogram procedure so I know it is not painful. GiGi was a wee bit shaken when they brought her back to me in approx 10min. When I looked at her tummy (belly rub) this morning I see a small red mark on her tummy....could this be from them "taking urine" from her. I think the vet also took some blood. Would this not be a very painful area to have a needle. I have in the past felt this vet (although very honest and everyone in town goes to him) is a little rough with my little guys. I know I am a fanatic about how my babies are handled but I want the best for them. Any opinions welcomed. Tina |

| listen to your gut I'd call and ask him. I think I'd look for a new vet if you are not comfortable with the way he handles your babies. Trust is a big thing. I'm going through cancer with my 10 year old Yorkie and pending everything is clear on his ultra sound, he'll be having his leg amputated tomorrow. I would NEVER be able to have him go through with this if it werent' with this doctor. I trust him Implicitly with my Yorkies. If you feel uncomfortable about ANYTHING you should listen to your gut and find a new vet. Best of luck. Elaine |

| The red spot is approx 1/2 inch and right above looks looks like a little tiny red spot and a little nub like an under the skin tiny pimple. But the red marks don't really look like rashes mor like from a pinch or twist of the skin (not that I think he twisted her skin) but sorta more like from a bruise. Tina |

| It is called a cystocentesis. A needle is inserted through the body wall into the bladder. It is a very effective way to get urine that is not contaminated. It is not really painful either. The red spot should go away within a few days. Ellie has had them before. No worries.

| Tina. I see that you are in NJ too. I'm not sure where you are located, but I live in S. Jersey (Exit 74) on the Garden State. About 10 min. North of Manahawking and 10 Min. S. of Toms River. I use Stafford Vet Hospital - been going there for 10 years and I only use Dr. Vandenbroek and Dr. Hurley or Dr. Zerbe. They are EXCELLENT. They are voted every year as the best in Ocean County. If you'd like their number PM me and I'll pass it on to you. I really would call this vet and ask him about what he did. Elaine |

| I should have added that Ellie never got any kind of bump or pimple that I remember. If you are uncomfortable, call your vet. They probably didn't want you to bring a urine sample because it would be easily contaminated.

| Hey.....thank you all for getting back to me. I think her little pimply spot is just her she is low to the ground and is very fair. But the red spots are most probably from the procedure. I am not worried about the red going away just that she is not subjected to unnecessary pain or discomfort. You know they can't tell you whether they like the vet or not so sometimes I like to check things out with the group. But I am glad to know that the procedure she had is customary and necessary in her situation. Thanks for the referrals....always like to get those.....just in case. Tina |

| I also have them take a sample themselves, as I don't want to risk the urine being contaminated and the test not being accurate

| Sounds like you already have your answer, but if you're uncomfortable I'd call the vet. I'm sure you paid good money, and he should answer your questions.
