| Only likes people food Lately Louie will not eat his puppy food. I started mixing it with small portions of meatballs and he seemed to love it, but now he wont eat it unless it is JUST people food. Does anyone else feed their baby only people food, and if so what is the heathiest way to do this.....like what kind of foods, and should he get suppliments or should I just only give him dog food???? |

| According to my vet ...ONLY dog food, I give my dog some gerber graduates carrots or greenbeans but only after he has finished his kibble. I don't think table foods are healthy for them as their only source of food..I have a friend who's maltese will only eat table food after she let him have some and now it is a big problem because he won't eat otherwise..lol..and he is a big maltese (15lbs.)....so she put down the dog food last week, kept the nutrical handy and by dinner he was eating that..she went through that for about 5 days..and now he is eating the natural balance rolls..good luck

| Personally I think dog food is best as it has everything they need and is convenient. It is possible to feed a dog by making your own food but this isn't table scraps this is proper formulated and prepared foods and they will still need extra vitamin tablets that you can get from your vet. This is time consuming and messy and in many cases smelly and when we did it for one of ours we worried all the time was she getting the right foods. |

| If you have a healthy dog and feed him correctly you shouldn't need any suppliments. |

| Nutrical is used for small dogs in case their sugar levels drops low (my vet advises it is ALWAYS good to have some on hand..or Karo syrup)..basically little dogs burn so much energy and/or if they skip a meal their blood sugar could drop and they could become hypoglycemic (sp?)...so I hope that helps..I personally give Maximus a lick 1x a day before I leave for work because he get a little wacky..lol, but when he was smaller the vet used to suggest after every meal a little..you can buy at thet vet or petsmart or Petco I believe

| You can feed your dogs a lot of different human food. Example chicken(white meat is better), beef(boiled), rice, carrots, peas, green beans, punkin, or potatos. Watch out for dogs with sensitive stomach. Keep in mind if you going to have her on soft food like these, you wll have to brush his teeth or you will have problem in the long run. NO salt! Don't add salt to anything. There already is a trace amount of salt naturally in food. Plus, dogs can't process salt through their body as fast as we can and it can lead to kidney failure in the long run. NO FATTY food! Meatballs isn't the best choice but my dog would have love it too. It has too much salt and way too fatty to be feed all the time. By the way, there are books out there that will teach you how to cook for your dog. There is also books on the BARF(raw food) diet that show you how to probably prepare food. I know people that have these books but I don't know who wrote them or anything because I don't cook for my dogs in any way or form. Oh, you might want to go to the petstore and get some vitamin. Unless you really know how to cook for your puppy to the fullest, more than likely your puppy will not get all the vitamin he needs to grow. Honestly, I think all this involves too much work and research. Plus there are too many things to watch out for. I personally like to feed my dog a very good brand of dry dog food and save me all the time and headache of food preparation. That's just me. However, I have know people that cook for their dog and they swear it is better for them than comerical dog food. |
