| Feeding raw question Has anyone gave their yorkie a raw chicken bone? I bought some ground chicken and veggies for the dogs to try today. I was telling the store owner about Fritzel's teeth. She said give him a raw chicken bone and it would take most of the tarter off his teeth. I have never given my dogs chicken bones because they splinter but she said raw ones do not splinter.

| I don't feed raw, but they say the bones don't splinter when raw. I just feed raw veggies with their kibble.

| You can feed them as long as they are raw. I wouldn't anything larger than a wing or a chicken neck for a yorkie. It does do wonders for their teeth if feed on a regular basis. Just don't mix meals with bones and kibble. They digest at different rates and it can cause problems.

| Yes I give them to mine all the time as they are on a raw diet. My Indy's teeth were beginning to delevop plaque and the vet wanted to clean them but within a week of eating raw meaty bones (such as chicken wings) they were pearly white again. However cooked bones must never be fed as they can splinter and as has already been said, make sure you don't feed them their raw bones within 5 hours of eating kibble.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i'm still unsure about giving them raw chicken wings, like i don't know what exactly to give morgan. can i just buy a package of fresh, not frozen, chicken wings from like tyson or purdue and give her one? do i have to do anything to it besides take off the skin?

| You can buy a packet of fresh ones but I would advise you to freeze them for at least 48 hours before defrosting and feeding. You don't need to take off the skin unless she's on a diet, it actually contains vital nutrients. I'm sure she'll show you what she's supposed to do next

| It kills the bacteria which can potentially cause neosporum caninum (which can be fatal). It is a very small risk but to be extra safe, its best to freeze. |

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | I've been feeding RAW for going on 5 years, now. Abigail has been eating RAW chicken legs since she was 9 weeks and 2.2 lbs. Of course, I had to help her, then. I do not recommend wings or chicken necks. The vertebrae in the necks can be a choking hazard. Better to give them something large enough they need to work at, than something small enough to snarf down without chewing. RAW bones are definitely good for teeth. My 13 y/o mix has beautiful white teeth, and neither of my dogs ever have stinky breathe. Unlike kibble, that leaves a residue on the teeth, RAW food is digested completely - because that's what their systems are designed to process. Also - rather than mixing kibble with the occasional RAW bone, why not just take the plunge and convert to feeding RAW meat and RAW meaty bones? Your dogs will love you for it.
