| Ultra Sound Prices? Input Please. Hi guys. I don't want to sound mercinary, but I have to ask has any of you guys done an ultra sound on your pet and if so what was the cost. As most of you know Newman is going through tests and if all is well will have his leg amputated in hopes of curing his cancer. I was told that the whole procedure with the pre-op would run between $1500 and $2000. I paid out $200 and change on Sunday morning just for blood work and asperation of the lymp node. Tomorrow is his ultra sound and a chest x ray and they are charging me $500. THAT SEEMS RIDICULOUS. I am caught in a rock and a hard place. I don't have unlimited funds and I'm up to $700 already without surgery and this is not to mention the already $900 we spent in March to do a Lumpectomy that didn't work. Any input would be appreciated. I hate to sound like I'm Bitc.... but I feel like I'm being raked over the coals. AND, Jersey who is being spayed tomorrow is $410.00 for her spaying. I mean Geez, only last year it was $325.00. They keep going higher and higher and I think that $325 was high already as compared to others in our area. Thanks, for listening and for any input you guys can provide. Elaine |

| Hoku had an ultrasound of her heart done a few months ago and if I remember correctly it was a little over $200.

| Your vet sounds a little costly in general... could you perhaps shop around, or is this the only vet you can trust?

| Ellie had an xray, not chest xray and not ultrasound, a few weeks ago. One view was $80. I think that is what a lot of vets charge so that would make the ultrasound $420. In my opinion, that is double what the highest price should be.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Maya's ultrasound was 195.00 at a specialty clinic. I know how you feel. I have spent 2000 on Maya for her Cushings disease since April and I am right back where I was in APril. SHe is no better. Not to mention Pixie's 2 visits to the er vet in July. Can you try negotiating with them on a package deal for the whole thing? Good luck.

| Gosh...those bills add up quick don't they? Under the circumstances, why don't you talk to your Vet? Tell him exactly what you just told us. Anyone can understand you're doing your best here and perhaps he can help out a little...hopefully by discounting the bill a bit. It won't hurt to ask. Good Luck to both of them tomorrow....

| I think if they know you're desperate they raise the price. I agree, tell him your situation and see if he'll give you a break. |

| My heart goes out to you. Prices in the tri-state area are insane! I agree with everyone's suggestions - find another vet or try to make an arrangement with your vet. Good luck and keep us posted.

| I'm such a Wreck. I am so sick over ALL of this. It's not just the $$ I'm just having a terrible time with the fact that my ONLY options are to either have his leg amputated and hope for the best or put my baby down. This is a position I would not want to see ANYONE in. It's a horrible horrible spot to be in. As I explained under the sick/emergency forum, Newman's tumor has never been seen in the foot pad. It's an unknown yet this vet somehow gives up (After over a week of waiting) statics of 89 percent survival rate. Hubby asked how can you give this kind of rate when it's something you nor any of the oncologists at Penn have ever seen. He had no answer except to say that he bases it on other tumors in other areas. My boy is 10 years old with a collapsing trachea and it's a lot to put on him. I feel selfish putting him through it but on the other hand the vet has made us feel as if we are selfish in putting him down. I can't figure out whether to cry or throw up. I've been hysterical all day and as time passes I'm getting more and more upset with putting him through this surgery. I'm pretrified of losing him during or as he stays alone at the hospital. Part of me feels that by putting him to sleep atleast he'd be in my arms while he goes. Sorry for rambling. I have never been such a wreck. I just feel sick and now the cost too seems to be climbing higher and higher from what we were originally told. Plus I'm worried about Jersey being spayed tomorrow. She's so small (4 lbss) and I have that post on my mind about that poor gal losing her pup during a routine spaying. I think I just need to take two tylenol PM and go to sleep. Elaine |

| I would find another vet to give you a second opinion. It seems to me that if your boy is having other health problems. . . I live in a rural area, and I know prices are low. (If you want to come stay for awhile you are welcome!!) Ultrasound for pregnant females $20, x-ray on tail $40 puppy shots & worming $5 per puppy for a litter, dew claws and tail docking $3 per puppy. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Everything is expensive here in CA. I would definitely get a second opinion. Is there a vet school nearby? Sometimes they will give you a break on prices if it is an interesting case for them. Sometimes the Humane Society will help you too. |
