| Not a Yorkie owner....yet! Hi everyone! Lately I've been thinking about getting a puppy, and I think I have my heart set on a little Yorkie. I'm trying to do my research and learn from this forum so that I can be prepared when I take my little baby doll home. I've been having some difficulty finding reputable Yorkie breeders in my area (I live in Ontario, Canada). They seem to all be letting the puppies go at 7-8 weeks, which I beleive to be too young. I've been looking at the breeders' reviews on this forum and I'm very interested in purchasing a puppy from www.starlightsyorkies.com. I was wondering if anybody else has had any experience (good or bad) with this breeder? I'm a little scared to have one shipped to me, as it would probably be a 6 hour flight, and I know that flying can be very stressful for a puppy. However, since I just can't seem to find a good breeder within driving distance, it seems to be my only option right now. Also, I was wondering what you guys think about tiny Yorkies? I would really like mine to be 3-4lbs full grown, but I've heard that small ones can often have various health issues. Do you think it's better to get one in the 5-7lbs range? I'm also undecided on whether to get a male or female. How did you guys decide which sex you wanted to own? Thanks in advance for your help and answers! All your babies are absolutely precious and it melts my heart to look at them all |

| Hi! Welcome to YT. It sounds like you are going to be a great Yorkie owner. You are doing your research and asking the right questions. I have heard that some of the smaller Yorkies can have medical issues, but since you are looking for a quality breeder, that should help. I also know that it can be difficult to predetermine the size your Yorkie will turn out to be. You could choose a puppy that the breeder says will be 4 lbs, and he/she may grow to be 7 or more. Also, do you have young children or other pets? If you do, I would probably go with a Yorkie that's a little larger and sturdier if you have a choice. I'm sure you'll get a lot of great advice on this site. Hope you find the Yorkie of your dreams very soon.

| Check out this review thread that I think is about the breeder you mentioned. I would read it all the way to the end of the thread. Sounds mostly good though. I would contact some of the owners of their puppies through pm also, to ask questions. It's always a good idea to check references. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=starlights

| Make sure to ask any breeder LOTS of questions. They should also ask you LOTS of questions. You should get a contract that has a health guarantee to protect you and the breeder. My feeling is that you should not be looking for a specific size. I am sure you have seen the posts from many people stating that their yorkies got much bigger than they were told. There is no way that we as breeders can guarantee a size. Yes, go ahead and ask about sizes and weights of parents and the puppy, just don't be heartbroken if your puppy is not the exact size you were wanting. There have been several new yorkie owners that were ready to give up their new puppies because they were going to be too big. Size does not matter if you are getting a pet. The love and devotion will still be there whether the puppy will be 3 pounds or 10 pounds fully grown. |

| Hello and a big welcome to YT! I know absolutely nothing about this 'Starlights Yorkies' so i'm in no position to criticize the breeder or her dogs.. but did anyone else think that the dogs looked kinda fake..like stuffed toys?? just think people appreciate a genuine untouched photo when choosing a dog. The best of luck to you in finding your new Yorkie baby..i know how frustrating the search can be!

| Best of luck to you in your search for your new baby Just curious - do you think it was a type for the little girl for "$6,000"? Are they selling the pup for that much or did they accidentaly add a zero

| I totally agree. Weight should be the last thing to worry about. General good health, and disposition are far more important.

| I am sorry to say I could not keep my mouth shut about this. I went to the website of starlight yorkies and was shocked The website is amazing, very nice looking BUT... ....I have never seen so much distortion of the Yorkshire Terrier breed! To call that kennel owner a breeder would be wrong. She is maybe letting them having puppies but shows no respect to the breed at all. This distortion of the head reminds me of hydrocephalus. It is a condition in dogs and men that causes excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain = the scull "blows out" because of the pressure of the fluid, the eyes of the dog point outward to the sides (not forward). A serious condition so many dogs have to be euthanized. In the website the "breeder" uses the words: ,,Apple head and really big eyes". If that is what she is seeking she should get herself a Shih Tzu to breed and leave the Yorkie alone. You can see how the head of a Yorkie should be like by reading the ACK standard (or FCI standard) Quote:

| You should look at the babies that ksbiewers has for sale. She is needing to find them homes before she has surgery. There are several YTers that have bought dogs from her. Some have even been to her home to see how the dogs and puppies live and are socialized. |

| I apologize, I should have worded myself differently. I would preferrably like my Yorkie to be 3-4lbs full grown, but it's definately not a must. I understand that there's no sure way to determine their adult size, but I was hoping to get one that's a little bit smaller to begin with, as opposed to the biggest one out of the litter. I always want to ask a lot of questions, but I sometimes feel like if I do, the breeder will be offended and feel like I'm interrogating them. But I guess if they're a genuinely good breeder, they would have no problem answering all the questions. Thanks you for your thoughts! Quote:

| Thank you for your thoughts! I'm pretty new to the world of Yorkies, so I did not notice any of those things I'm so glad I asked for information about her...I think I'll stay clear of her now. Quote:
