| Welcome to Y.T....you've asked some loaded questions.lol.....You can try the YTCA for a list of breeders, you'll still have to do some homework though.....I've seen prices quoted on here from $330-$2000, and everything in between....you're best bet is to do a lot of searching and reading on this site, it's full of info, go to the search button up above and start searching threads on: "liver shunt"....."pet stores"..."tea cups"..."finding a good breeder"...."hypoglycemia"..."internet scams"...." "breeder questions"..." health warranty/contract"...."BYB".....and everything else you can think of....take your time, it may take a while....Good Luck....

| it took me a long time to find a good quality yorkshire terrier. you really have to do your homework on the breeder and like what was said in the above thread. this is just my opinion, and some people will disagree with me, but i feel any yorkie under 900.00 is not from a respected knowledgable breeder. reputable breeders spend lots of money on testing, their breeding stock (i hate calling it that), and many other things. i feel if you get a cheap one, then something isn't right. now i am sure there are plenty of cute yorkies out there that are cheap but they don't fit the standard of the breed this is why the sell for cheap. and this has been the problems with yorkshire terriers being overbred and not keeping to the standard. there are so many yorkies out there that don't even look like yorkies. this is not to say if they don't fit the standard they are not good pets but we need to keep the breed to the standard. i hope this helps you.

| Great! Thanks! The main reason I wanted to know is because I know someone who spent $6000 for one of hers (I think she's a teacup and so adorable) and over $3000 for the other (and this dog is the ugliest Yorkie I've seen! She has a pointy nose and she is pretty much all dark tan). I paid $1500 for my Scout (without doing much prior research) and from what I have read he fits the standard and I have info on his parents, grandparents and great grandparents to prove his champion bloodline. I really find it sad that people breed Yorkies to make $6000 a piece and completely rip someone off with pretty much what I would consider a fake!

| Yes you def. have to do your homework. You can find healthy Yorkies at resonable prices, I did. Now I didn't get puppies, both mine are now 4 yrs old. I would def. check out the bredders home and her other puppies. You can even ask for references. My moms best friend and my mom both got their Yorkies from her so I trusted her. She has been wonderful!

| i got mocha from a nice old lady for $650 (she was actually a present, so my bf did the research). she was elderly and this was her yorkie's (mocha's mom) 3rd litter and she said she wasn't able to take care of mocha and the others (mocha had a sister and brother. i wanted them all, but.. ). her brother was sold for $600 and i'm not sure if she sold the other female. mocha is healthy and i think i'm one of the more fortunate ones to have a puppy who's healthy and from a champion bloodline with a reasonable price. you really need to do your research because not all "quality" dogs are $3000-6000. taking the time to research will save you a lot of heartache and money in the long run.

| I have a "cheap" yorkie and a "not so cheap" yorkie... quite honestly, Tootie, the "cheap" yorkie is sooooo much fun and a great pet. He is far from standard(16lbs, floppy ears, wavy hair..) but he has been much healthier than my Hopey. She is everything about standard and perfectly wonderful so I think it has alot to do with "what is supposed to be".... I love both of my babies, VERY MUCH, and wouldnt have it any other way! d

| Research is the key. Check out the breeder see how much they know about the breed, what their goals are toward the breed, check out their Vet to see what type of care their dogs gets and if they have had any major problems..etc. In my area most look for those 300-400 dollar Yorkies. I don't charge as much as most and most who do call think I'm high. but My are all in standard with health testing, straight back, good bites, upright ear..etc. My moms all get checkups before breeding, X-Rays right before pups are due. My Vet does puppy checkups, shots, wormings, tail docks, dew claws..etc. I went through all of puppyfind just looking at some of the Yorkies and I only seen just a handful that I thought were nice looking pups. Seen a lot more of badly bred ones both low and high priced. Just because a dog runs high does not always mean it's Quality, I have seen those who take advantage of other because of tiny, t-cups and off colored pups. While I understand the tiny ones require more time and attention to raise, I just think some of these prices are over the top. I think I made a breeder mad one time because she was selling small Chocolates for 3,500.00 and I made the comment ..That IMO if I were going to pay that much I'd look for a CH Sired Standard to Show. When I ask her about genetics she said she didn't know anything about it. All she knew was that she got Chocolates when she bred the two dogs together. Anyway IMO I think you can find a nice looking, healthy pup for under a 900.00 but you just have wait sometimes, to do the research and check out the breeder really well. |
