| First puppy being shipped! advice please! My husband and I live in Phoenix and will be receiving our first puppy from Minnesota in about 6 weeks. I am worried about caring for a puppy that has been forced on a plane and coming to a new home with none of her brothers and sisters. Does anyone have any tips for us that we may have not read about? We have a cat but this is our first dog! |

| When you say forced on a plane, I'm confused?? It's not a forced option when they are trying to get your puppy to you. You do have other options if you are worried about the puppy flying in cargo. Most airlines take really good care of pets that are flying. You can buy a ticket early before the pup is ready and meet the breeder at the airport. This way the puppy can go in carrier and sit with you. If not, It is up to the breeder to make sure the puppy is comfortable in the fly on carrier. Our breeder put a blanket inside that Kodak was use to sleeping on and his favorite toy. There was also a water dish and some food so he was pretty comfortable. The flight was only an couple of hours. My Kodak came from Oklahoma and was flown in to Chicago, and they say he slept the entire flight. Instead of having my female flown in, I drove 4 hours total to pick her up. I've even read where some breeders take the dog to the vet right before the flight to get them a mild sedative for traveling. A lot of people don't agree with flying pups, but I had a good experience. Hope this helps and good luck with your new puppy.

| Is it possible for you to fly out and pick him up, so he can sit with you on the way home? I really don't like shipping animals, but that's just me because I had a bad experience.

| flying a puppy Hello, I live in Chandler Heights, Az. I have shipped in 4 Yorkie puppies from Colorado and they did fine on the plane. I hope the breeder you are getting the puppy from has done this before and doesnt send the puppy before the puppy can handle it. Hopefully the breeder will give the puppy some Nutrical just before the flight too. Make sure the puppy is able to land in Phoenix as it is MUCH hotter here than Michigan. Airlines wont let the puppy land if the temperature is over 85 degrees at the time of the landing. You can go to weater.com to get up to the hour temps. That is also what the airlines use as a guide line for shipping animals. Dont take the puppy out of the crate at the airport. Its too noisy, busy and the puppy could get scared and jump out of your (strangers to him) arms. The puppy could be drooly and have motion sickness too. Or he could be ready to rumble and be a live wire and want out of the crate. I would take him home and put him in a quite place and give some Nutrical, food and water. Hope this answers some of your questions. Lynn 480-988-9837 |
