| Need help My fiancee has a yorkie that she has had for a few years. From what I understand, the Yorkie does not like men as a general rule. Now, when she is around, the dog will bark and carry on if I pass by her area. When she is away on a trip or gone for any length of time, the dog will hide in it's carrier and only come out when no one is present to eat and poop/pee. The dog has tried to bite me and several other caretakers a number of times, but my fiancee loves the dog. What can I do to allow the dog to become better acclimated to me and not feel as threatened? Thanks in advance for all assistance. |

| bump can someone help this man? What I would suggest is getting on the floor to play with the dog perhaps with the dog's favorite toy. Being on the dogs level can go a long way. Maybe come with treats in hand - might be bribary, but anything to make a friend be patient, the dog was there first and wants to protect its owner Hopefully somone else can give you some advice if they have experienced something similar |

| Maybe try some treats, and when your fiance is home to take the dog for a walk or do things together so the yorkie can see you as part of the pack |

| I saw something like this on TV on the Dog Whisper, but it was a mom the daughter..... What they said it was the moms fault for correcting the daughter instead of the Yorkie. Once the dog was put in its place as second after the child , the child and Yorkie developed a friendship. I made my sister watch this and made her put her maltese in check before she bite a family member, because she would get real bad with all males in the house. But it must be her that corrects her Yorkie not you. Best of Luck

| on the dog whisperer there was a dog that was really afraid of everyone. He said to keep your back to the dog. Don't try to force yourself on him by petting or talking to him. NO touch, No talk, No eye contact. I'm not sure but it sounds like the dog is afraid of others so maybe that could help. Eventually, when he's sees you are not a threat, he will come out. at least that's the theory. |

| I agree with the last comment made by tjdmom...Don't make eye contact with the dog or call it...After awhile, it will acknowledge you. You may want to try holding a treat out in your hand, but don't look at the dog. Good luck!! This will be a slow process, but keep at it. It's important to be patient. P.S. The statement that generally speaking yorkies don't like men is not true at all. I have yet to meet a yorkie that does not like men. None of the yorkies in my family are that way. They love everyone.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | HA Bella adores my hubby ......and my exhubby......holy manoly she goes crazy over him.....acts like a lil puppy when she see his car in the driveway and she makes him hold her and rub her belly before he leaves and Bella never lived with him so she just warmed up to him by him stopping by! I think yorkies like men and women equally

| I would have you and your fiance togethor, and both of yall play with him. Give him treats, and you slowly hold him, and love on him. But take things very slow. Good luck, and keep us updated on how it goes! |

| Thanks for all the advice. The suggestions offered have been tried and she seems to be okay when my fiancee is around. Once my fiancee leaves on a trip or goes away for a few reason, she reverts back to her old self and hides. We've tried the treats thing with both of us around and she's fine, it only seems to happen when my fiancee goes away. Will keep you updated though. |

| Is the dog a male or female? Does the dog like walking on a leash. My Conner will be friends with anyone who will take him to the park or the beach for a walk.
