| Scary vet visit - should I be worried? I took my baby to the vet last night for a lyme disease vac. Someone brought a dog in that was very ill. We were in the examining room next to it and heard that it had Parvo. My baby just had his last vac. 2 weeks ago. I called the vet this morning and asked them if I should be concerned since they said nothing to me about the sick dog. They seemed a little surprised that I knew about it. They said I have nothing to worry about but I still feel worried. What do you think? Am I worrying too much? My baby is only 5 months old.

| I guess I would be worried too; but the vet seems to think you are fine. Do you trust your vet? If your puppy was in a different room, I bet you are safe. If you were in the waiting room sitting next to the sick puppy, I would be concerned. I'm sure your vet would have warned you if there was a danger. Just keep an eye on your baby for a few days; but you should feel pretty safe. If our babies are in danger from disease, bug bites, allergic reactions, or flying eagles we all worry, so just accept that you are part of a big club; The Yorkie Guardians of The World, and try to relax.

| He has had 3 sets of vaccines...each time they give him a little of the parvo disease so his body can fight it off. The puppy was in another room as well...I understand why you would be worried but I am sure he is fine. |

| I would have been worried like you were also. I know we have to take our furbabies to the vets. But I've often wondered the same thing. About how many pets were in the same waiting area as us during the day and were any of them contagious. We were at the vets once and this couple had their cat in a cage and their little daughter was wondering all over the waiting room, touching her cat in the cage, hands on everything and she came over to try and pet Rudy. I said something like, "I'm sorry but I really don't know why your kitty is in here and I'd rather you not pet Rudy. " The parents didn't say anything and my husband just looked at me. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm sure your little one will be fine.

| Don't the puppies only get 4 rounds of shots? If so then I wouldn't worry about it. What if you try calling another vet to see what they have to say.? Let me know if you do call another vet, and tell me what they said! Good luck! |

| Thanks for all the replies. I guess I am just overprotective of my little guy. I did call another vet and they said that he should be ok and that they should have at least talked to me about it. This is my first dog and I want to take excellent care of him.

| Nothing wrong with being cautious. I think you're doing a great job! When Gizmo went in for his last set of shots, a woman was coming in with a kitten in a blanket and saying he was really sick. My husband quickly put Gizmo in his carrying bag and told me to go out the back door to the car and he would pay the bill. When we got home, HE suggested we take our shoes off and wash our hands before we took him out. And I thought he was my dog....these guys can really get to your heart!

| The only thing I might have considered doing was washing the soles of your shoes with a bleach cleaner. When my daughter was working at the Vet's office she would call on her way home if they had a parvo baby and I would meet her in the garage with a garbage bag....she would strip down and put her clothes in the bag and then we'd put them directly into the washer. Her shoes would also go into a smaller bag with a paper towel soaked in bleach for the soles. And....this was after she had used the sanitizing spray the Vet's use on their own clothes and shoes!

I worked for Dr.s many many years ago, their office was set up like mentioned wishing the vets had. The Vets in our area sure charge enough for office visit, shots and care that I personally feel they could accomodate this sort of set up. Patti, Baby Blessing and DollieDae | |
