| puppy's and worms It's been a great success! Puppy has been home for a week now! I'm loving every minute of it! Do all puppy have worms? Do I give my puppy worm medicine every 2 wks? Where do I get worm medicine? Should also be treating my 10 year old yorkie? |

| Thats great. I don't know, Aubrey had worms a few times, but I would just keep an eye on there "poop" and if you see any, take it to the vet. My vet only charged me 10$ a dose, they are great! What do you mean by "Treating your 10 year old Yorkie?" |

| puppy Take the pup for a regular health check with a stool sample...if it has worms, treat them...and if you have an adult Yorkie, I would take a stool sample to the vet in 14 days for a "look/see"...most adults don't get worms as easily as pups... |

| It's best to take a stool sample to your vet, so that he can check it. Coccidia or giardia won't necessarily be seen by you...

| Most worms won't be seen unless the dog has a large number. Worm eggs are microscopic so your vet needs to look at a stool sample under the microscope. There are roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia. Roundworms, hookworms and giardia can be transmitted to people. Puppies get roundworms from their mothers when drinking the milk, so most have them. You need to take the puppy to a vet for a checkup with a stool sample and your vet can let you know if the older dog may need medicine. Stool samples should be checked at least 1 x a year and ideally 2 x a year all of a dogs or cats life.

| worms Don't routinely worm a Yorkie puppy...always check the stool first..no need to run a toxin through a Yorkie for no reason..A larger breeds can take routine wormings, not our little Yorks... |

| Paddington had roundworm the last time we went to a vet. I was SO disgusted But the vet explained everything to me- how most puppies have roundworm because they get it from the mother etc. He gave Paddington a dose of meds right there, and gave me a dose to give him two weeks later. I have to take a stool sample back to the vet next week to make sure he is worm free now. When you take your puppy to the vet, you should always take a stool sample just in case they ask for one. You should definitely take one the first one or two visits. If your puppy tests positive for worms, the vet will tell you how to handle it. I've learned SO much from my vet-he is the most valuable person (besides me of course ) in my puppy's life! Also ask your vet about any concerns you have regarding worms. They will tell you all abour prevention and how to recognize if your dog has certain kinds of worms. -O
