| training yorkies to use a litter box Hello Everyone I am new to the site as I am a new yorkie owner. I just got Bella 6 days ago and she is 2 months old. So far she is pretty well behaved but I would like to train her to use a litter box. I live in an apartment on the 16th floor so outside is not the best but I am trying to train her with puppy pads and then move them into a litter box. So far she is using the pads at night but when she has more access to the apartment she goes anywhere but the pads. I put her on the pad when I catch her attempting the act but then she waits and then goes on the carpet later..lol. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me? Much Thanks Jen |

| We tried the puppy litter and Gracie ended up playing with it and tried to eat it. It never worked for us. Best of luck to you with this.

| i'm bumping this thread, seeing as i am showing more interest in litter box training due to living up north and it's always raining and snowing, so outside potty isn't always an option. would love to have more info on litterbox training for yorkies! |

| Milo is 7 weeks, and seems to prefer newpaper sheets than pads. He *sometimes* goes to the newspaper, but doesn't like the pads. |

| Most of my dogs are litterbox trained. I start them out on puppy pads. When they are doing well on those I move them into an empty litterbox. I slowly add litter under the pad so that they can get used to the texture difference. Once they are going well in the litterbox with the litter under the pad I simply remove the pad. For my boys there's a box behind the litterbox that I hang a puppypad on so they have something to aim at when they lift their leg.

| My little Maggie who is 8 weeks old today WILL NOT go on the puppy pad. I also live in an apartment and trying the litter box. She will go in it when I am not there (sometimes....on the floor also, even though I have newspaper down). But when I am home with her she wants to go on the carpet every chance she gets. I am constantly watching her and when I see her "hunched" I take her to the litter box. Sometimes she just sits in the litter and pouts. I don't know if I am confusing her since I sometimes take her outside, and I have newspaper down, and a litter box. Oh....and she loves to dig in the litter and it goes everywhere!

| Eloise uses a litter box! We started off with the puppy pads, and then moved them into the box. As for litter, it wasn't so successful. She just tries to eat it. Over all, the pads in the box work pretty good. She does have accidents but most of the time she walks right to the pad and goes. |
