| yorkies face and breath.. bad odor I am wondering if anyone else has a problem with your yorkie's face and breath having a horrible ordor? My chandler also thinks he's the boss of our 145lb Alaskin Malmute, and our other dog who is a mixed breed about 60lbs, it gets on everyone's nerves, cuz as soon as the dogs get up to look out the door, chandler is right behind them yapping. Chandler is 5yr old. I did not have him nutred, I planned on it but did't, he has to pee on or against everything. Any suggestions would be great. Now on the other hand he is the most loving, loyal, sweet baby ever! I would never be without one. Thanks, CBclown |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! The marking may stop if you do neuter him, do you clean his face daily with a wet towel? There is also stuff you can use for doggy breath, such as Greenies or doggy breath mints even. We look forward to seeing more of Chandler around here! |

| Welcome to YT CB and Chandler. I think if you neuter him he might stop marking. Do you brush his teeth daily? That might help with the bath breath. Also like fasteddie said you can use greenies and doggie breath mints. Looking forward to see pics of Chandler. |

| Riley's and TJ's faces do smell. We bathe them once a week. I think it might be because of food and water and also the eye stuff that gets stuckl in their hair. When you bathe your Yorkie, wash their face real good and get the eye stuff out of their hair. Just don't get soap in their eyes! |

| For fasteddie... I have been wondering about the same question Sami's mouth has a bad odor I brush his teeth 3 times a week and wash his face everyday, and I give him greenies but not that often. Is there a reason or possible condition that could be brewing for bad breath? Or is it just normal? and how often would you recommend greenies to be given to him? thanks so much joann |

| I definately second the greenies idea. Linus's breath was rank, and it's much better after a greenie. Also, try wiping their face with a wet washcloth after they eat. Some of the reason that their face might smell is because food is stuck in their hair. That might be a little better.

| Welcome, CB & Chandler!! Can't advise about marking but the face odor could be his food? Our Toto [girl] puts her face in her food and it gets in her mustache ... have to wash her face or it smells! Ugh! No problem with her breath ... we give her greenies. Looking forward to hearing all about your "crew". Good luck!

| There could be a bad tooth that needs taken care of. That can cause a nasty smell. I would advise you have the teeth checked out by your vet. |

| CB Clown- I think the marking will definitely stop or at least decrease once you get him nuetered. I waited until my maltese was 2 and once he was--he pretty much stopped. I am a Malamute owner as well. My 140 lb malamute is afraid of my yorkie mix puppy. |

| while you all are on the topic of brushing teeth...... how often do you all take your yorkies to have the vet clean the teeth? i brush Buckeye's teeth often but i know i don't do a good enough job. he has had the vet clean them once. i am afraid to have it done too often for the fact that they have to put him under an anistetic. do you just go by the looks of them or yearly or what?

| I brush weekly with Maxi-Guard... its a gel so it works even if you can't brush them really well! I don't give Greenies...EVER! They can become impacted and there are many a few reported stories of dogs dying from eating them. I'm not going to risk it! Greenie makes the new Smart Greenie now that is not digestible and still helps with the bad breath. Mine love these. I have found that Tino gets "stunky-face" right before his bath and I think its just from food! Here is the Smart Greenie if you are interested.....
