| Vet Visit Tonight - Have a question!! I have an appointment to take Kalina to the Vet tonight. This is her second visit but the first one was merely a mandatory visit after I got her to see if she is healthy. Tonight she will get her last puppy shot, something for heartworm prevention, and she is also due to get her Frontline administered. I can do this myself, but I don't have any Frontline right now and thought I might as well get the Vet to do it...if she does that sort of thing. I am totally out of the loop as far as puppies and Vets are concerned - it's been so long. What I am really concerned about is the Rabies shot. My breeder said to absolutely NOT get the shot for Rabies until she is one year old. I know my Vet will want to give it to her tonight because she is over 3 months. I'm worried because: 1. Too many shots tonight might make her sick. 2. I admire and respect my breeder's opinion. 3. I was reading about how sick Armani got after his Rabies shot! So, anyone? Advice? When did your puppy get their Rabies shot? Did s/he get other shots at the same time? Was there a reaction? Also, if I wait to get Rabies at a year doesn't that mean I can't take her anywhere where she'll be around other dogs? On the other hand, there isn't any Rabies epidemic that I know of. I AM SO CONFUSED!! TIA for all your help.

| Both my babies got their rabies shots but cannot remember how young they were . . I did not have a negative reaction on Tiger so I was never concerned when it was Annika's turn. If you plan to take Kalina to the groomer though they will require one so if you don't intent to have her groomed by others, you should be okay I am sure a lot of experienced breeders or Yorkie Moms can give you better advise. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Marcel got his rabies at 7 mths, and he weighed 2 pounds 6 oz. at the time - he did just fine. But he does so well with all of his shots. Are you saying she is also getting her last distemper combo as well?

| How old is your puppy? My Eury is 4 months old and while she's been given several shots so far, she hasn't received her rabies yet. She has two vets and both have said she is too young to start rabies yet. Does anyone know when puppies should start getting rabies?

| I don't remember when Ellie had her first rabies shot but it was way before a year. I don't really have an opinion on that except that I think the rabies shot is totally unnecessary and only do it to comply with the law and if Ellie bit someone she wouldn't be automatically put to sleep. I do have a thought about getting shots, heartworm preventatives and flea med in one night though. If you are not having a flea problem right now I would take the med home and do it in a few days/weeks so if your puppy has any kind of reaction (God forbid) you would know which product is causing it. I might also wait to give heartworm preventatives til a few days after the shots are done.

I def. wouldn't do all 3 if it were me. Rabies does have a higher reaction incidence than others. Maybe do that one on its own?

| Sammy jsut got his rabies shot today. He is exactly 4 months old today. He's done well with other shots, let's see about tonight. And he did get others, he got Bortadella and the 2nd Lyme. I do know that if they don't have their complete set of shots you can't take them to puppy school or anything like that, i don't know if you are planning anything for him. |

| Zoey was 4 months and weighed 3 lbs when she got her Rabies. She vomited and was lethargic for 2 days. She also had a reaction to the previous shot "lepto." Im sure you vet will understand if you want to wait. I wouldnt do too many meds at once. It could make them sick, plus if they give 2-3 things and there is a problem, you cant tell which made them sick. Ask your breeder for a written shot record. Good luck.

| shots I would get the last set of shots today and wait until she is 6months for the rabies shot. only because she is a small one. The Bortadella is drops in the nose that OK. Apply the flea medicine next week and the same with the Heartgard. The Vet will give you a list of what she needs.Stand your ground about the rabies shot. Take Care, Sondra

| Wobie got his rabies at 4 months, with no adverse reactions. It is typical to lump all those last puppy shots together, the last DHPP, Bordatella, and Rabies vaccines. I took Wobie to get his DHPP and Bordatella one day, and then a week later took him to get his rabies so his body would have a chance to recover between shots. If you wait to give her the rabies, you won't be able to get her groomed, boarded, or trained (in a training class). If you don't mind that, I don't think its a problem.
