Wait until after 1st heat to fix? What is a good age to fix if I decide too? Not fixing now just 7 months old... Getting teeth cut out today....But not fixing! Just toooo much right now. |
I would have had the spay and the teeth done at the same time so she would only go under once. I am getting mmy female spayed at 10-12 months because she will only be about 3 lbs. |
I had Bella fixed at 6 months. I asked many people, including doctors, and they said it was a good idea to have her fixed before her first cycle. I'm glad I did it. She is such a active and social dog that I was afraid of her goign into heat and not being able to go outside and play. I mean, if you aren't going to breed them, why wait? |
Absolutely! I had Snoodles fixed when they pulled the baby teeth. Only one anesthesia! Also, if you get them fixed before their first cycle, you really lesson the chances of cancer later on in life! Pat |
Yup! I heard the exact same thing. If you get them spayed before their first cycle, you eliminate any chance of that. So many people wanted me to breed her becuase they wanted a little Bella too (she does have a cute face! ;) ) However, I wanted her so that I can love her and care for her, not breed her, so that was totally out of the question for me. I think you should spay her soon. |
Yes, the sooner you spay her (preferably before the 1st heat cycle), the less chances she has of getting certain cancers. I was too late & had Biddy spayed after her 1st heat cycle and I have always regretted it. I wish I had done it sooner. |
My vet told me the same thing about having the dog spayed before she has her first heat. Apparently if you wait until afterward, it doesn't have the same benefit of preventing mammary cancer in later years. Molly is going in on the 24th (poor baby). She'll be just shy of 7 months old at the time. And, like so many, she has a ton of retained baby teeth (a full double set on the top...looks like a shark) which we'll take care of at the same time to avoid the double anesthesia. |
