| Yorkie Mom "Aha!" Moment OK -- I just realized something today as I was out walking Archie. There were several bees swarming around someone's yard very near to the sidewalk where we were walking. Really big bees. Now, instead of thinking of protecting myself from getting stung -- the very first thought in my mind was shielding Archie from the bees and hurrying him away from the danger. When I'm in the car with Archie in his car seat next to me and I make a turn, I'm extra careful with oncoming cars on Archie's side of the car because I can't stand the thought of the car being hit on his side. When there were break-ins recently in my condo building (not my unit), I couldn't leave him alone in the house until I could get my security door and security system installed (that means I did not leave the house for a few days -- I work at home). Is this the maternal instinct? I don't have kids, but I'm beginning to understand how people must feel about their children! No maternal instinct post would be complete without a photo of the "kid":

| Cute kid! I'm the same way with Lexie. It's funny you asked if this is maternal instinct. I wondered that the other day. I also have no kids.

| Thanks all for the nice comments on Archie's looks -- I think my kid is good-looking, too! HA! HA! Sometimes I feel a little self-conscious about being so in love with the furkid -- I talk about him all the time to people who probably don't understand what it's all about -- they have kids and grandkids and probably don't understand how someone could be so ga-ga over a little dog!

| I think it's TOTAL maternal instinct! I have no kids, but I had a miscarriage last year. My mom tells me that the reason I take care of Paddington as if he were my child is because of all the "leftover hormones" I think she's completely right. And Archie is BEAUTIFUL! -O

| He completely has! Maybe it is emotional escape-avoidance, but caring for him has completely been my outlet for my maternal instinct! I would most definitely protect him from bees, and I do put a lot of consideration into which side I put his car seat on (will I be street parking, will I be most likely to get hit from that side... etc)My grandma says I'm crazy, but she doesn't understand. Pets to her are just animals... he's my *baby*! But then, I've always acted that way towards pets- even my hampsters when I was seven were my *babies* -O
