I found a couple of fleas on maggie and I have been doing everything I can think of to get rid of them until I can get to the vet on Monday. nothing is working. I bathed her in dawn on Friday night. I saw a flea come off of her. but on Saturday, I found another flea. I put white vinegar in her water and made her eat some garlic. Today, I am playing with her hair and I see tons of black speck between her eyes!!!!!!!!!! are these flea eggs???? and if they are, what do I do about them? I can't put this dawn dish soap or the flea shampoos that close to her eyes! so what do I do? I am going to bathe her again and use the flea comb there but I really don't see it working. any ideas as to how I can get this stuff off of her??? It is irritating the CRAP out of me!!!! I have washed everything in the house, vacuumed 3 times after putting some baking soda on the carpets, bathed the dogs, combed the dogs, forced them to all eat garlic...I just don't know what to do. I know tomorrow is monday and I can go to the vet to get some treatment but I want them gone NOW !!!! I'm very impatient with this kind of stuff. any suggestions???? I just don't want to hurt my baby or her little eyes...

First take a deep breath!! It takes abit of time to get rid of them. Your doing the right things so far. Talk to your Vet and see what they recommend for Flea control in your area. You can't get rid of them overnight so don't stress.

hmm..I dunno, maybe while bathing her, try using the corner of a wash cloth to loosen it all up...and then rinse it?..or then maybe use the flea comb after it is loosened up? ...

i was thinking a baby toothbrush. i am just scared to get soap in her eyes.

Someone suggested using those little finger toothbrushes for the crud around their eyes. The soft plastic ones. I used one a couple of times on Max's eyes and they work really great.....gentle and they don't yank the hair.....try that.
Also, a groomer told me to use Baby shampoo on their face; still try not to get the soap in their eyes, but if you do, at least it doesn't burn their eyes. I've been doing that for a long time and it seems to work. Max's hair is kept short though.

Petco sales Advantage at least the one by me. You don't need a prescription for Advantage and gets rid off the fleas and the eggs. Frontline is more expensive as well as the other flea products, and you do need a prescription for those I believe.

i used a baby toothbrush and some baby shampoo and it worked GREAT. I will try the rubber finger toothbrush next time, might be more gentle .

Aubrey had fleas the first day i got him. I took him home and washed him with Baby Shampoo, I didn't see anymore after that bath.. so maybe try that, but you might have already washed him too much.

She ate garlic? I think that's toxic to dogs. I hope you get the fleas out. I am always worried that mine will get fleas from somewhere and I am always checking them. Are they hard to see?

I saw one on Aubrey because it was big, but its hard to really see them because they move so fast. But I saw the flea poop..UH.

I really try to not use chemicals on my babies, so this is what I do. I realize that some people have large yards or there may be other reasons that this won’t work for everyone, but here goes……

Beneficial nematodes are the answer to flea control in your yard. Read more about them here http://www.marchbiological.com/L/ben...nematodes.html They are microscopic organisms that feed on a variety of soil insects and they will keep fleas, etc. out of your yard. If you have fleas in your yard, then you will never get them off your baby. Of course, if you live in an apartment, then this solution won’t work for you.

Also, that does not mean that your baby won't get a flea when they go on a walk or that a flea might crawl over into your yard from the neighbors yard. But that can be controlled by bathing your babies in Dawn dishwashing soap or some other non-toxic method. If there are no fleas in your yard, then you CAN win the battle.

The nematodes will also keep the fire ants out of your yard and that is a great benefit to those of us who live in the south. I have used the nematodes for 6-7 years and have not had a flea problem in all that time. I have outdoor dogs living on both sides of my yard too. The nematodes work great!

You can usually get them at any organic gardening store. They can also be ordered, but they must be kept cool or they will die, so if you order them, be sure the supplier plans to cool ship them. Also, follow the directions EXACTLY for putting them on the yard. You will have to water your yard in the summer when it is very dry, enough so that the nematodes do not dry up and die - maybe once a week or so, if it is not raining.

I have outdoor dogs on both sides of my yard so I put diatamaceous earth around the perimeter of my yard to keep the fleas from crawling into my yard. It works great, but it must be reapplied after a heavy rain. I know is sounds a little nutty, but it really works! I've used nematodes for 7-8 years, and never have I had a flea problem, even with outdoor dogs on either side of my yard.

You're doing the right things. I've struggled with fleas myself this year. I keep finding them on Sadie no matter what I do...they're outside & I live in an apartment, so there's not a lot I can do about it.

But it sounds like you're on the right track. Something you might ask your vet about: my vet has given me a couple of Capstar pills. It's supposed to kill them all within 30 minutes. I keep one on hand in case I see some fleas.
