I am an avid reader of the Sunday paper and read everything. There was an article on an interview with the mother of the 12 year old boy that was killed in SF by the family pit bull (Rex) about 10 day ago. Listen to what this stupid woman said. She said that she made her 12 year old boy go into the basement and placed a shovel against the basement door (so that the boy would have a difficult time leaving it) while she ran errands cause Rex her male pitbull was agressive because her female was in heat. She actually said, she should have known that Nicky would not listen to her and would leave the basement. What is wrong with people? She leaves a 12 year old that is not known to be obedient in a basement, which has a shovel placed against the door to prevent the boy from leaving (has she ever heard about house fires?) with an aggressive male pit bull, with a female pit bull that is in heat. This is criminal behavior. No. 1 - why would she keep an aggressive dog when she has children, No. 2 - did she not have any idea how dangerous it is to lock a child up? No. 3 - she does not blame the dog, I agree SHE IS TO BLAME. And the sad part is this child paid for his life cause his mother is just too stupid, lazy and selfish to concern herself for her child. She should be punished and what do you want to bet she is not?

It's amazing how stupid some people can be. Who would leave their kid locked up in a room (esp. the basement with no windows and you can't get out of the room) in the same house with an aggressive pitbull? Sometimes, people just amaze me with their stupidity.

Oh I couldnt agree more...Why do you leave your 12 year old child home alone in the first place! Especially if you think these dogs could so harm to him...I don't understand some peoples parenting skills (or lack there of)

That child had to pay with his life...And one dog (the female) was shot to death by the officer...and the male that killed the child was put to sleep...Now what happens to the mom? She will suffer the loss of her child yes, and I am sure there is no pain greater than that...But will no one question why this child was alone in the first place??

I am not a parent, only to my furbaby...and I think I have more common sense than that...So terrible!!

Goodness- I agree. There are some people out there who should not even have freedom let alone kids or pets.

No one should own a dangerous pet, even with her home, he would be in danger. I am sure she will be charged. You are not allowed to leave a child of any age in a dangerous situation - which this was.

OMGosh! That is horrible! Why didn't she do something as simple as take her child with her to do the errands? Was she going somewhere she shouldn't have that the child wouldn't have been allowed (barroom, casino, questionable acquaintance)?

Awful . . . just awful!

I guess I'll be repeating the posts before me - but first - no child should EVER be locked in a room - no matter what age or what's in a house. That's abuse right there...and that poor child getting mauled is criminal to me - and MOM should be the defendant on trial for Accessory to Murder....

How truly tragic for that poor boy...this really made me sick reading - I hadn't heard this story - What is WRONG WITH PEOPLE where they put a Pitt Bull before their Children ?

This happens way too often and I think the courts need to get more agressive in prosecuting these parents/owners of vicious dogs....I know it's not the dogs fault - The fault lies on the owners.... this was just awful to read....

Now that I think about it more, the kid would have been better off if the pitt bull had been locked in the basement. I agree with the above posts in saying that some people shouldn't be allowed to have dogs or kids, and the mom should've taken the kid with her! And I don't think it was the dogs fault. The mother shouldn't have a dangerous dog if she has a kid.

here is the artical it was emailed to me this morning i cant beleive this woman i'm just stuned i dont know what to say people out there are crazy my son is almost 14 and i make him go with me all the time i still dont like him home alone.

She should be charged with child abuse, and put away for a long time. I seriously thing she's missing a few screws and bolts.
