BREEDERS Labor Info Asap Looking for female to deliver today..She has a slight green discharge can any breeders tell me if your's does this..spoke to vet she seemed to think it was not anything bad as long as it was not heavy, she is pretty new out of school. Any info would be great. How soon do you think she will go? She is nesting, stomach thighing up off and on but does not seem to be in hard labor yet. Thanks all Last edited by yorkiegirl2; 06-12-2005 at 08:49 AM.

The discharge should not have a putrid smell...if it does, that is a sign of trouble.

Do you have her in an area that is quiet and not too bright? Keep checking on her....if you have to use a creaking door, just let the door ajar instead of opening it all the time. Don't have different people going in and out...just you. Have you read up on what to do if certain things occur, such as dry birth, a puppy appearing stillborn (how to do a shake down) and such? Get on line and try to get some info. that will be both eductional and calming to you...even if you already read it, read it again, it couldn't hurt. I truly hope all goes well and that she is a nutural at this. Please let us know.

whelping JMO from years of experince..I want to see NO discharge but a clear one BEFORE whelping..sometimes the hair of the vulva can get a bit matted with this discharge and it looks slightly brown..but it is best to trim the hair and blot the area..if it is not yellowish white, I want to see the vet. Green can mean a placenta has separated and one pup has died..doesn't mean all are dead by any means. Also, green is the color of old blood...take her temp and make sure she has not developed an infection...after whelping you may see dark green from old blood draining from the uterus..but it should not have a smell of infection. Best wishes

Thanks, Yes, read info on everything you talked about ..from before she got pregnant to today ,but i always like to get others input. Just wondering if others had female that had the green discharge..I read it was ok after first pup is born but some website say it is not ok if before. Should she be offered food? She has water but she shows no interest in it.

| Have you read up on what to do when she gives birth? When Angel had her pups 5 weeks ago, I was not prepaired. I mean, I had all the medical supplies I could possibly need, but I didn't know just how in depth their delivery can be. I had to pry one of the pups from the mothers mouth. She was limp, cold, and bloody. I thought she was dead. I had to rub her vigourously, sling her, and THEN asperate her mouth and nose. Had it not been for the great people here at yorkietalk, I wouldnt have even known to do THAT! From what I know, as long as there is no smell to it everything should be ok. Just keep taking her temp (and write it down), Keep a log of everything that happens, when it happens. She should have puppies by morning (usually in the middle of the night), so prepair to drink a lot of coffee. Good luck and keep us posted!
